Need professional looking signature for paintings

I am a new member. I am an emerging artist and would like advice on how to devise a slick signature or some kind of calligraphy advise for signing my oil paintings and pastels. What do you recommend?

Re: Need professional looking signature for paintings

well
since there's really no rules for signatures
all i can do is tell you what i do
but it's much like figuring out your signature for signing cheques (checks) or your charge card stuff ... practice ... fill a pallet with ideas, practice with different brushes and find a quick, easy way to sign your works.

i sign my first two initials and my last name
i use colors that are already in the painting
and i tend to go small and semi hidden with it
and i always keep it away from edges to allow for space for a frame

you can sure google 'artists signatures' there's tons of images to view.

welcome to WC!

practice

Worry about the quality of your art, not your signature.
Unless you pretend to place it in the middle of the work

Seriously. Signatures are like belly buttons. Everyone has one, and they are all different. As long as it isn't neon orange and in the center, it is irrelevant. Yes, make a nice, neat, consistent signature, as that will become your logo. No one can tell you how to make your own belly button, er signature. But people do not buy artwork for the signature. Unless you are Monet, Manet, Picasso, Klimt, Pissarro... aw, never mind. Bad point. Are you Monet or Manet?

Whatever suits your style is fine. Don't forget it may change too as your style evolves.
By all means use calligraphy if you know how to. But be careful personally i don't' tend to buy paintings with large signatures or ones that disrupt the flow of the paintings, some people can manage to have a large sig that doesn't' but it takes practice.
