April 2012 Watercolor Challenge - Phalenopsis
Posting this early as I am away until 15th April.
This is a lovely Phalenopsis orchid that I painted as one of the Kev and Doug challenges 4 years ago. There is a large photograph in the Reference Image Library HERE.
And here is my painting:
12 x 12 on a Langton Rough block W&N Dioxane Violet/Ultramarine Blue mix for the background, Winsor Orange and Cadmium Red for details, Viridian/Raw Sienna mix for green areas, same+Burnt Sienna for greys.
As you can see I simplified the background.
Have fun!
Doug

This is beautiful and your painting is amazing! I think this time I'm going to try this, since it is more up my alley. I can play brass instruments, just was terrified to paint one. Everyone who did the challenge did an awesome job though.
I hope you and Ruth have a wonderful and safe trip!

Have a nice trip Doug. Your painting is beautiful and what a coincidence I had painted that one for the January Plant Parade-2012. 22x25, W&N colors. Posting it here again.

Have you change the name of this challenge?

Re: April 2012 Watercolor Challenge - Phalenopsis
Almost finished, few more touches yet. Still wet. Arches 140lbs 12x24" Da Vinci paints. I added one flower to the bottom. I needed that for height.
I painted the background first outlining the flowers, After the background I painted the flowers, later I went back to the background four or five times till I reached the color I wanted. I waited for the background to dry before I put another coat.
It was more involved to do the background than the flowers. I painted the flowers with blue, red, yellow green purple gold.

Just got a chance to log in from NZ.
Good to see you are not put off by the complicated flowers.
Wonderful detail Nur, and yours is looking great Emmy. I first tried doing the background pattern but eventually gave up.
