Subjects... you have to learn to become an artist
Subjects... you have to learn to become an artist
To become an artist any one has to learn 5 subjects. With out understanding these subjects no one can become an artist in their life time whatever amount of work they do.
These are those 5 subjects.
Sketching,
Value,
Perspective,
Color,
Design & Composition
I will give a small description about these.
Sketching
This subjects concerns about Observation. This Observation helps to understand the Spaces, Edges and Curves. We call these three as tools of the sketching to capture the shapes from Nature or Life.
Value
As an artist we have to understand Light and Shadows of the Nature. These Light and Shadows are the effects of Light, whether it is Sun Light or Artificial Light. We will be able to create realistic illusions on canvas through creating Light & shadows. Understanding the Light & Shadows is called Value.
Perspective
Another Important subject for the art student to learn. To construct realistic illusion on the two dimensional surface of canvas, art student must know this. It related to Shape, Value and Color.
Color
What ever we see in our visual world it appears in Color. What we paint on Canvas is also Color. Art student has to understand throughly everything about Color. Otherwise his/her color applications will be weak. His/Her efforts to create realistic illusions on canvas also appears unconvincing.
Design & Composition
Finally this is the soul of art. Value, Perspective, Space & Color everything is a part of Design & Composition. If a picture appears beautiful means Design & Composition worked well in that picture. If picture appears dull and lifeless...it must be a poor Design & Composition. That is the importance of Design & Composition.
If an art student learn these subjects properly, he will become good at creating visually appealing works. Viewers will look at them with respect and delight. We call those kind of works as art. All best institutes of art will use these tools to train their student well.
