how did you achieve some of the grainy texture..did you apply a fine particulate of some sort?
Interestingly I have been also constructing a couple of small size collagraphs myself at the moment, the kids I worked with recently in the schools who did collagraphs were the inspiration.
I am going to use an alternate material instead of carborumdum or alum oxide. This is the dried contents of an old Brita water filter. It might not be quite as fine a particulate as the others mentioned but think will produce some exciting textural qualities.There appears to be several different sizes of particles that make up the filter material so I may separate them by shaking through a fine mesh fabric such as screen mesh. Also it is recycling a material that would otherwise end up in a landfill (although I suspect it's fairly biodegradable as there are granules of charcoal in it).

Thanks I used engraving ink, I'm not sure the brand. For the wiping we mixed the ink with something called "easy wipe".

The grainy texture is just from different coarse sandpapers (the brown paper on the plate). Other than that, I used aluminum foil (which has a similar effect to the sandpaper when it gets scrunched up), masking tape, thread and cord, and heavy gel painting medium.

Ooooh, thanks for posting this, Scott! The monochrome is my fave. So interesting how much detail they really have. We're going to be doing collagraphs next in our class, so I'll be borrowing your sandpaper idea, I think.

Bridog, curious if your Brita-bits work out or not. Have you had a chance to give them a try? What will you embed them in?
