Do you use Copal, Becca? I find it great for drying time!

Nancy, yes, copal is..but I use the damar, stand oil, turp blend. It makes paint get tacky real fast.
Reminds me I have some copal crystals i was going to work with and never have...

Re: The Oily Rag....................Come and Chat, March 2012
Just thought this deserved a mention:
1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
3. The Chinese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
4. The Italians drink a lot of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans...
5. The Germans drink a lot of beer and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
CONCLUSION:Eat and drink what you like.Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

Re: The Oily Rag....................Come and Chat, March 2012
Nancy, wish there were a few clear secrets out there.
One of my neighbors who is in his late 90s isn't well I learned today..needed to get a pacemaker and from the sound of it, has had many issues since. By comparison, is son, who is no older than I am is also in failing health..but then that is pretty much what a life of drug abuse will do for you. Anyway, I was sorry to hear he was no longer able to be well and healthy, had always been an inspiration to me.
Marcia, I always look at it that I know a little about too many things.

Re: The Oily Rag....................Come and Chat, March 2012
Sid, that is an adorable home, I love the early version first. I have always loved little cottage style houses like that...It is great that it has been so well maintained. Love the truck in the early version too. Bet with your mom's beauty shop you knew all the gossip in town.
My dads family was originally in TX at least his immediate family..really dispersed all over the country for the extended family. My mom was from WY(originally Austria)....sort of settled here in the middle in KS. I haven't been back to visit where I grew up for some time...it was a tiny house really.

Re: The Oily Rag....................Come and Chat, March 2012
I was planning a visit to my brother today, but I overslept and am progressing so slowly here I have decided to postpone until tomorrow.
Sid, all this nostalgia has made my mind drift...my grandfather on my dad's side passed away in the 1918 flu epidemic, he was a carpenter, and my dad's first wife died of dust pneumonia in the 30s...
In Austria, my mom's dad was a scholar, but when he moved here he became a coal miner.
Some years later Here I was dressed stylishly on my bike in front of my families house...

Re: The Oily Rag....................Come and Chat, March 2012
Good Morning Oilies!!!
What sweet childhood homes, both of you, and Becca, you are dressed like you are about to venture out on a Safari through the neighborhood. I can almost smell the mosquito repellent.
I see training wheels, so I am guessing it's you first bike and it was your birthday!

Re: The Oily Rag....................Come and Chat, March 2012
Hi Marcia, first bike yes..but not my birthday...but likely close to it If I recall the training wheels didn't last long.
Looking through those old pics I loved the interior shots with all the bold pattern..was a fun time I think.

Re: The Oily Rag....................Come and Chat, March 2012
Here's the farmhouse I lived in until I was 5 and we moved into a newly built ranch style home across the driveway, where my mom still lives. The picture was taken in the fifties sometime before I was born. My grandparents lived there until my parents got married in 1957 and moved in.
Great looking dog, and I love the barn cats on the roof.
This was the back porch, no one ever used the front door. It was a recent add-on, which may be why the picture was taken, and sported a bathroom, it was a pretty old house. I shared a bedroom with my sister in the upper right.
