Re: 30 in 30

As usual, your trees are wonderful! I think it is so cool that you are doing this! I'm really enjoying watching your choice of subject, as well as your use of color.

It is so nice to see someone else's version of the world. It is such a great insight to see how someone else interprets their experiences! We artists sometimes tend to live only in our world - thanks for letting us into yours!

Thanks so much for your efforts! Really nice work!

Re: 30 in 30

Paula, this is so gorgeous. I love how even the grass leads toward the lake. Thanks for the tip about the airholes at the base of the trees. I've done that in some compositions and gotten the "wall of trees" effect, didn't think of including airholes at the base. They look fantastic!

Thanks for yet another useful tip!

I can also see why you love this place for plein air. There are so many different angles you could paint from -- it draws me right into the scene as if I was there. I finally got a sample of Belgian Mist and it's darker than I expected, it's an undertone in itself.

This has been great, especially the demo. It is so interesting to see an idea unfold and come out so beautifully. In one day!!!

Keeping tuned in for the next episode.

Re: 30 in 30

Thanks for the demo, Paula. You make it look so easy. lol By looking at all of your little gems in this thread, it has occurred to me that I think I am trying to put too much detail in my landscapes. Doh! Thanks for opening my eyes. Again.

I hope you have fun experimenting. It is very inspiring to see you doing this project. I can't wait to see #7.

Thanks again.

Doug

Re: 30 in 30

Wait no more Doug... here is #7 and thank you!! Thank you Deb!!

I've included a photo of the underpainting I did with pastels and alcohol, the reference photo, and the pastels used. Forgot to include the colors I used for the sky. They were 3 values of turquoise blue by Terry Ludwig. I did not use the alcohol on the sky, just the ground and the background trees.

Paula,

thank you for sharing all this wonderful information, along with the progress on your challenge. The demo is wonderful -- I will reread this thread many times.
...and good luck as you progress.

Re: 30 in 30

Another winner, Paula. The underpainting for the grass looks quite vibrant. I love the colours in the sky. Are the three Terry Ludwig turquoise pastels from the Maggie Price value set? I am thinking of ordering that set.

Re: 30 in 30

Paula, this is wonderful! I love that lacy, almost dew-covered foreground tree. It's fantastic. Thanks for showing the dramatic underpainting too. This series is spurring you on to ever greater efforts and each one tops the last.
