Re: Down On Mermaid Street - Revised

I think you nailed it with the drips of rain. I love the atmosphere, it is very romantic. Well done. =)) Debs.

I question the washing line across the pair. It ties them together in a sense but it also defines the scene. Apart from that it is lovely work.

Re: Down On Mermaid Street - Revised

The painting is copied well from a pic, or may be plein air... but i feel sorry for the girl who freezes in cold, and suffers so uncomfortable with high heels shoes, considering the warm suit the man wears and comfortable shoes, I'm so sorry for her, and think she's silly to suffer that much, just for her stereotypical looks.

Re: Down On Mermaid Street - Revised

She doesn't really look like she's suffering to me. She has a man to keep her warm. Since flowers are blooming in the painting, I would like to assume it is a somewhat warm rain. It's not unusual for a couple to dress to the max when going out on the town in the U.S., but I'm not sure how they dress where this photo was taken. I probably should have done more research. One member thought she should be wearing a mini skirt, which I felt would be distracting, even though it might have been correct for the time period.

Never the less, I delivered the painting to it's new owner yesterday, and he loves it! He's giving it to his wife for Valentine's Day.

Thank you all for your helpful comments and opinions!!!
