Re: Oil-from-life challenge, Nov. 2018: optional "fall colors" theme (again)!

Tweaked my plein air painting of the hospital ruins in the studio, but unfortunately the paint in the sky hadn’t dried enough so I didn’t get the desired coverage. One more layer of paint over the sky — when it’s fully dried— and it should be done.

Yep, looks great! I hope you post the final version too.

Ronsu, actually I forgot to try the fan brush, lol. I'll bust it out today.

Re: Oil-from-life challenge, Nov. 2018: optional "fall colors" theme (again)!

We finally got some fall colors here! I spent yesterday, Saturday, afternoon by the river painting the bridge and fall colors. There were many challenges in this painting. When I started to paint it at 3 pm the bridge was dark, very dark. I changed the value three times while painting. In the end it was white. Sky color was changing also. But I had good time doing this painting. "Alamillo bridge", 20x30 cm, Rembrant canvas paper. Photo is taken with my tablet so it's not the best possible.
Will come back later to comment more but first I need to charge this tablet.

Two other plein airs from this week. I did total of 8. Today it's raining all day so that's enough pleinair for now and tomorrow driving back to the beach.

"Palm Tree Avenue", 25x35 cm (not sure about the actual size but close), oil on double oil primed canvas
Again photo is taken with tablet.

This plein air and the previous one are painted in the Alamillo park.
"Palm and Orange Trees in Alamillo", one hour sketch, 20x30 cm, oil on canvas paper for oils

Tom, excellent work with your hospital ruins painting.

Grotius, beautiful finished portrait. "Walking on Hampden Lane" is a wonderful plein air. In my opinion the painting is working well as it is. My latest approach to the middle ground trees is to use greys or greyish variation of the trees in front or I simply try to look what hue they are. I think the trick is to paint them lower in value than the trees in front of them but higher in value than te distant tree line. With value I understand white being the lowest, black highest. Some of my teachers mean the lowest & highest vise versa.

Grotius, how is the framing going? Was it a lot of work after all? Is it now close to the exhibition? Did you have opening already? If you can, please, post us some photos!

hi moscatel! it's so exciting seeing palm trees and orange trees with oranges hanging from them! i particularly like your skies, clouds, there's a breathlessness to them that i find hard to accomplish. the light feels wonderful in all of these, especially the last one, the height of the palms is palpable. hoping you paint&post more!

Hi back Ronsu! Thank you for your comment. I hope your painting too and posting. Seville is full of oranges now, trees have so many that you can´t count. Alamillo park especially has lots of trees full of oranges, some still a bit green, and it´s so cute. Will go there again to paint. Besides you can find there corners that are very quiet and without too many people coming and looking over your shoulder while you paint.
