'Round the Campfire ~ June

Hello everyone. Happy June! Just getting our campfire set up. Come by and chat for awhile. Fresh, hot coffee and ice-cold lemonade for those who are thirsty. Anyone want some ice cream? June is Dairy Month.

I hope you all have a great and creative June!

Just came back from having 2 scoops of low sugar coffee ice cream with dollops of sugar free whipped cream - diabetes be DAMMED!!!!!!!!

A restaurant near us makes their own ice cream - it is owned by Dutch people and most everything is low sogar , the desserts are great & the food is FANTASTIC!!!!!!!

Re: 'Round the Campfire ~ June

I'll have some of that ice cream!

Jennaboo, to answer your last question in May, the reason that the sculptures are chopped up like that is because the crucible (cup that holds melted metal) can only hold so much melted metal and if a piece is larger than the amount a cup can hold, then it (the investment it is in) will not be filled with metal. Also a piece cannot be too "thick" because then you start to deal with different set up (hardening) times as the metal cools and the entire piece needs to cool at the same rate.

This is about all I know. I gave them the head of the elk attached to the body, but it was solid. They took it off and hollowed it using a torch, and also hollowed the mold so that they were the same thickness.

You get massive warping if the exterior of the metal cools faster than the interior and other metallurgy stuff. That is why I am paying these guys to do this instead of trying to figure it out by myself. Money can't buy you love but it can buy you sculpture.

Want to say also that I am really excited about the way the texture came out on these. It was really just painting on the surface of a very smooth sculpture. I can't wait until I texture the large horse. Here are two examples of the textures I came up with.

Re: 'Round the Campfire ~ June

Good morning from Montana -

Well, Summer has arrived ... nice change from the Winter we had - Been busy this week with plowing my garden and getting it planted ... still have a little more planting to do - Also, trimming trees around my house so the painters, who will be coming later this Summer, can work easier painting the house.

Too, prepping the kitchen which I am going to repaint; and started remodeling the upstairs - Fixing it up as a guest quarters for an artistic spirit who may wish to venture this way - Will have a bedroom, bath, reading alcove and an equipped studio with a great view - Going to be a busy Summer along with my number one activity ... taking care of my Border Collie, Annie, and working in my studio -

Hope everyone is doing well and has plans for an enjoyable Summer -

Take care and be safe - Hud

Re: 'Round the Campfire ~ June

Yes summer has arrived for me as well. Hot & dry, we desperately need rain. We've had very little since the snow melted in April.
Not much happening in my world. Sorry Jenna, don't have a milk cow for the month of June, but went on a nature hike last month & captured this momma Canada Goose who was very protective of her nest. There was no way I could have got close to her, but she let me know that she knew I was there, & she didn't like it.

It's cropped from the original.

I might take you up on your rental for a month or 2 if and when I start selling well. I also have friends who are artists (National Sculpture Society) who would love to rent for a month to explore the landscape of MT. PM me with some numbers and ways to contact you.

Re: 'Round the Campfire ~ June

I think summer is finally getting to Northern California. In the 80's this week, but still a few showers showing up. Our mountains have 202% of the normal amount of snow right now. I was at Lake Tahoe 2 weeks ago and it snowed all day one day.

I saw the June challenge and have decided to tackle those beautiful mulit-colored chilis. Should be fun. I'm actually quite busy preparing to 2 shows this summer and a bunch of travel, but this challenge looks like it's worth taking on.

Welcome to summer!

Shelia: Like your photograph of the "momma Canada Goose" on her nest ... great shot - Yes, they can be very protective and will attack anyone who ventures to close -

Hot and dry here also ... sure need some rain; have not had any moisture since our last snow ... having to irrigate -

Re: 'Round the Campfire ~ June

Mmmm, ice cream. Thanks, Jenna. We have some Bluebell, Pecan with Praline, on hand to celebrate.

Katy, great textures. Sculpture is a challenge for the artist and the foundry. Sounds like you found a good match.

Hud, you have a busy time ahead. My cousin that was in Miles City passed away so we probably won't be coming that way for sometime. Her grandson, David Graham, still lives there but we are not close. He is an amazing western artist if you ever see a show around there.

Sheila, looks like the duck is sure protecting her family! Hope you get some rain.

Rick, you are so busy, too. Hope to see your challenge of the chiles.

We still have lots of back and forth to Austin this month to get Gene's batteries on and working! June 13 is the big reveal. Ha. Trying to get rested and ready to go to NM in July.

See all y'all down the road...

Re: 'Round the Campfire ~ June

Hi everyone. Well, with beautiful, sunny weather, I've been outside quite a bit tending flowers and helping around the farm. It's harder to find time to catch up online when it's like this. I love this time of year!

Hi Richard. That Dutch restaurant sounds great! Around here, Amish baked goods and roadside produce stands are quite popular. They have wonderful produce at very good prices. Your ice cream sounds great!

Hi Katy. Thanks for explaining this about the sculptures. It sounds like a very intricate process. I love your textures! They have a wonderful, organic feel.

Hi Hud. Sounds like you've got a lot planned for summer. Your house updates sound exciting. Very interesting venture with your new living space!

Hi Sheila. What a stunning photo of that goose. She's so beautiful, and she looks like quite a guardian for her little ones. Thanks for sharing this photo!

Hi Rick. Great to see you here! I am glad you're getting that much-needed moisture! Can't wait to see what you share for the Monthly Challenge!

Hi Jo. Sure hoping for the best on June 13th for you and Gene! Thanks for the yummy ice cream!

Well, not a lot else new around here. Gearing up for the next show, so I'm working on sculptures mostly. Also working at finishing up a new scratchboard. I'll be sharing that soon. Since everyone's still hungry for more, I've got chocolate marshmallow ice cream!
