I started this robin by outlining in micron pen and using watercolor pencils. But then I wanted to increase the brightness, etc. so I kept layering the watercolor pencils dry (and sometimes wetting them some more) so it turned out very different than it had started. Since my goal is NOT to be realistic, are the pen lines that can be seen in some places okay?
I did have some trouble when blending the watercolor pencil in the background. Despite my attempts to be careful, color from the bird mixed into the background when I was trying to avoid the halo. I don't know how to avoid that, since I'm working on the bird and the background at the same time. And then it reached a point where I just couldn't layer any more color even though I wanted to. You may notice the unusual branch, which is narrow in the middle but thick on both ends, owing to a mistake I couldn't correct and tried to camouflage, lol.
Overall, I really enjoyed working on this and playing with the bright colors!
