Jaguar Cubs (pastel forum)

Hi there to all at WC its great to be back again! Okay so its only been one day but I'm raring to go with my new painting now that Samsam is finally finished!
Well as promised, if not a little earlier than planned, my new wildlife painting thats now made itself at home on my easel, and just in time for a brand new thread too!
Well straight down to the business end of things:

After some time spent forming the composition of this piece (believe it or not cubs just aren't willing to pose these days ) I then began the less than lovely task of sketching the piece out onto student grade paper ensuring that proportions were correct and the composition pleasing to the eye. Any mistakes made at this stage can be easily rectified but not once work begins on the velour. Then using 'trace down' graphite paper the completed sketch was transferred to the velour paper (the velour already having been professionally adhered to mount board for stability, ease of handling and framing etc). Then using a sharp dark brown pastel pencil I went over these initial guide lines again making sure I hadnt missed out anything of importance.

This afternoon and this evening was spent adding a dark out of focus jungle background (easier said than done when you're addicted to detail ):

Anyway thats it so far, hopefully I'll get back into the studio at some point tomorrow so will update the thread thereafter

As always thankyou for showing an interest in my strange little world
Take care & bye for now

The cubs are deliciously detailed, and the background looks lovely. Can't wait to see it progress!

Hey thanks guys so much support already and the thread has only just begun, its wonderful to have you with me at the beginning of my next 'battle'!

Kathrynn - the only hands-on posing I did with these cubs was via image editor in photoshop!

Hi Kerry, I always enjoy glimpsing into your strange little world! I suppose I should finish my jaguar in oils now that you've started this. Funnily I could see them working really effectively as companion pieces thanks to that dark jungle background you've put in so far. I can't wait to see it progress!

Re: Jaguar Cubs (pastel forum)

Thankyou to everyone for your support so far.

Well for all of you who've been wondering if I've been in my studio at all, here's a little update:

For those of you who know me well you'll already know that I usually start my paintings with the eyes of the subject, but in this instance I felt the need to get to grips with the 'log', it isnt quite finished yet as once the cubs are finished I'll then go onto the log again and add some of the cubs colouring to gently tie the two pieces of the painting together so to speak.

Well thats it for now I guess, thanks for dropping in and bye for now
