Re: The Spotlight - February 2016 - Simplifying Part II

Jay, Very lovely painting! Beautiful sky and nicely simplified landscape!

Norma, Wonderful painting of the vase and flowers! I hope you are finding that the simplifying approach is helpful! Sure looks like it is working!

Re: The Spotlight - February 2016 - Simplifying Part II

Thanks all for your encouragement. I will definitely work on it soon. I just got knocked on my behind with a nasty case of strep. With my Asthma, allergy to penicillin, I'm having a tough go at it. Hope to hit part ii of this spotlight, silhouetted renditions soon.

Jess: It's probably this nasty weather we have been having. I am in Flagler Beach just 70 miles from Jacksonville. Wind and cold and more wind. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Re: The Spotlight - February 2016 - Simplifying Part II

Well I had time to do one more before I leave , I have peeled thru a whole package of sanded paper trying to get the hang of using the stuff...I think I have one page left! Had to photoshop it a bit to get the colors after my scanner played havoc with it...but here is "Big Sky"
C&C Welcome!

Re: The Spotlight - February 2016 - Simplifying Part II

Hi all. Thanks for your wishes. This fracture isn't too bad but I still can't use the hand to type! There's some great stuff going on here, both painting and advice. Sorry I can't take the time yet to comment on the postings, typing's so slow with one hand.
Just thinking about using shapes, well, I've done that this morning, made two different designs from one ref, both based on the "shape" of the light I wanted to get. I hope you like them, both only 6" square on gesso'd mat board.

Re: The Spotlight - February 2016 - Simplifying Part II

Gray overcast day. So mad science experiment! This is 9 x 12 on Fabriano Tiziano. lilac color. Pan pastels and then a hodgepodge of whatever I could get to stick on top of that. (You name it, it's there.) I was resisting the spraying with fixative. Don's two reference. First photo is the background which I hope was thin. The first part is pans only.

Raini, I love the color vibrancy. Ruthi, beautiful and very different light effects. Jay, I like the both but the daffodils are really lovely!

Raini, the complimentary colors work well and sing in harmony.
Ruthie, thank you for taking us down the same path and treating us to the different light. So sorry about that arm.
Jay, light on those daffodils speak of spring.

Norma, thank you
Karen. Snowing here so the touch of spring would be welcome. Thanks.

Re: The Spotlight - February 2016 - Simplifying Part II

Jay, I love the way you combined those. that's beautiful. The daffodils are light and airy and the sky so well done. Those grey days do soften up colors and shadows just like that.

Raini, your painting has an almost magical quality about it. Just lovely!

And Ruthie... wow, even broken you do work like this! I love your lighting studies. You display such a talent for capturing so much information and beauty with just a few strokes and colors.
