Wedding commission-dragons

What I've been working on mostly for past month or two. This was a commission from a friend who then gave it as a wedding gift.
The dragons represent the bride and groom, one is primary school teacher hence the crayons. The other works with bones so hence the skull. The blue dragon was meant to be tardis blue...I need a pencil labeled tardis blue.
'With this skull I wed thee' was almost a title of the image.
Original is now with the happy couple in Ireland and went down very well.
Pencils on A4 paper with ink outlines.
There is a larger version at my DA page.

Oh, this is marvelous! What an original idea with the skull. Never seen a blue dragon, but I really like the color.

Re: Wedding commission-dragons

This is absolutely beautiful although a bit morbid for wedding to use a skull but since one's profession works with bones, it's so well laid out. The dragons are loving and beautifully drawn and colored!!What kind of crayons did you use? Were they hard to apply on the paper you chose? What paper? Definitely worth framing and painting it big for the wall.

Re: Wedding commission-dragons

Well I don't think it that morbid, it is just a skull. If you wanted morbid it would be dark colours and more bones...I can do morbid well >.>
The paper is very smooth actually, is cartridge paper notebook that I use. Pencils are Derwent studio/artist and a few others...I've collected a rather large number of them.
It was done with lots and lots of layers, so no hard pressing with the pencils. The background was done with using the side of the pencil lead, rubbed over the paper then blended using a tissue...new technique I tried. The photo has made it look really bumpy/rough texture wise. My camera disliked the blue sky I think.
I also had a friend help me with the layout of the shadows and i did draw like severl layouts as mini sketched before picking this one.

Re: Wedding commission-dragons

chaosia, thanks for the info on your method. I've learnt that your cartridge paper is like our Bristol smooth or vellum. I mistook that you actually used crayons to do the colors. Now I know, it's colored pencils. Yes, yes, I could imagine a real morbid piece with your dragons!!
