This is another memory painting … or as Corot called them, “Souvenirs” –
As a young boy my constant companion was my Beagle “Clinch Mountain Jake” … I just called him Jake – We were always together … inseparable partners –
This painting depicts Jake and me roaming our favorite stomping grounds in Southern Appalachia where I grew up –
Painting: Oil on canvas glued to hardboard, 12 x 16; Palette: Yellow Ochre, Indian Red, Burnt Sienna, Raw Umber, Terre Verte, Ultramarine Blue, a smattering of Cadmium Yellow Pale, Cremnitz –
Comments and suggestions always welcome –
Thank you for viewing – Hud
February 24, 2019 at 11:03 pm #787769This is beautiful, Hud. That white tip of the beagle-tail is sure a familiar sight! I can just about hear the frantic sniffing, followed by a burst of howling and running after a trail. Love the story behind this painting. You always have a soft, dreamlike touch to your paintings. A very wonderful, very recognizable style. Well done!

February 25, 2019 at 5:13 am #787772I too, like your soft, dreamy style. And your subject matter. Here you have the immediacy of the foreground and hope in a distant future. I especially like the central tree.

Success is never found. Failure never fatal. Courage is the only thing.

I suppose this area where I grew up ( also referred to as the Southern Highlands ), which was settled by the English, Scots and Irish, reminded them of their home country – My family, who immigrated from England, settled in this area in 1640 … thus, maybe this is why it has an “Old English” look to it –
