George Baer

Hello,
I am new to the community so if this question is in the wrong place please excuse me.

I have an original george baer painting, I was wondering if anyone could tell me anything about it. I received it from my uncles estate about 3 years ago. It is titled the sheik.

Thanks,
Steve

Hails from United Kingdom
Re: George Baer

I can't tell you anything about that particular painting, I'm afraid. I expect you know a bit about the artist, do you? Like that he was born in Chicago in 1893, worked mostly in Connecticut where he died in 1971. I found a reference to a painting of his that recently sold at auction for around $6000 (here and scroll down). There is a much more interesting work of his in the National Gallery of Art in Washington, DC. The link to it is here. This was apparently part of a series of work relating to North Africa and the Sahara desert, so perhaps your painting is part of the same series. The NGA painting is dated 1927.

Re: George Baer

Dear Steve,
Regarding your painting by George Baer, I would be interested in considering acquiring it. My father was a student of George's & I am an artist. I grew up with his catalog book that contains an image of what must be your painting if your uncle was John F. Braun, of Merion, Penn.

Noel, Steve hasn't been around for over 5 years but if you click on his name, vonedaddy, you could send him both an e-mail and a PM (personal message, a sort of WetCanvas e-mail.)
