Need help!
I posted this is the legal forum but have not received any replies do I'm concerned I posted in the wrong place so I thought I would post here as well.
I hope this is the right place to post this, I didn't know if it should be in General Business or here in Legal Corner. I have a question regarding copyright and the use of photos from the WetCanvas RIL. I have asked questions here before as to their use and understand that they may be used as reference material in the creation of new artwork (meaning it cannot be used as a photo or be reproduced as such). I have used some pictures from the WetCanvas RIL that I absolutely love. I am doing a series of them and have a few people who are interested in purchasing a couple of my completed pieces. I have contacted each owner of the original photographs to thank them for the inspiration and reference. I also asked permission to sell which all so far have given me full permission and I was also instructed by one member that I do not need to ask permission to use so no need to contact anyone. Now here is my question. When I display or list my artwork to sell, do I need to now give credit to the owner of the photo reference I used? If so how do I go about doing this? I don't know the real names of these individuals and if I use their WetCanvas handles that may be confusing or unprofessional? I am just confused on how to do this and what I can legally do and not do. Would it be be ok to leave out the citation, is it necessary? Must it be included? If I do need to do this how do I go about wording it? Also, I still have not received responses from a couple of the people regarding their reference photos, is it ok for me to proceed with displaying and selling them if I don't hear back?
Thank you all again in advance, you are all so helpful!!
