I would preserve the lights in the background and paint in the dark grass shadows.

Yeah, do you have any tips on photographing artworks, or would you recommend editing the color saturation and such to make it appear more like real life ?

I photograph them by laying them on the floor in front of a patio door and I adjust them in Paintshop Pro.
