Re: Quick Dry Cafe, May 2012
Chammi, I own enough.
I gained 5 pounds on this new adjustment to the diet. Still feel as though I could devour half of the county. I am walking two miles most days. Have been fairly regular on this. I am out there generally five to six days a week and moving at a pretty sharp pace. Cut out 95% of the processed foods. Make my own breads, organic veggies and when I can afford them, meats. Avoiding soy and whey products totally.

Re: Quick Dry Cafe, May 2012
My buddy Pete came over from the center of the state. He stayed quite a while and we had lunch at Pei Wei. Split lunch and had the 2nd portion for dinner. Very flavorful and satisfying. First time in days I haven't felt food deprived.

Re: Quick Dry Cafe, May 2012
Welcome back Dejaar and Susan
Hi all
Heatwave ended today - drizzling and cooler, but the heat and blue skies were very welcome while here
Howard - I've been loking for little plastic pots for years - never see them over here and even asked a friend to check in the catering depts. when she goes for catering supplies. Haven't tried Staples though - will make a visit there
I'll also check Asda here (they were taken over by Walmart a few years ago) and see if they have any of the pots Patti bought - might just be lucky
It's the Queen's Diamond Jubilee this weekend and tonight DH's choir has been asked to do a Jubilee concert and he's conducting it.
We bought a flag to drape over his music stand and managed to find packs of Union Jack tissues, so I've folded 40 of them as top pocket hankies for the men's jackets ....... plenty of patriotic handbags, shopping bags, cosmetic bags, underwear!!!!!!, scarves etc for women, plenty of pottery (yuk) but not a bow tie, tie or hankie for men.
Been baking bread too - nice smell in the house
All for now Peeps - have to leave early to get chairs etc ready at the Church.

Maureen, that sounds like fun. Good old Queenie. She really has been around a long time and still looks pretty good. Great skin she has! As a real Republican, it is difficult to understand the Royalty thing but I do admire the loyalty of her subjects. An amazingly strong lady. There comes your creative talent again, Union Jack tissues in their pocket. You need a good applause for that one. Have fun. I just love the smell of baking bread. Reminds me of my childhood on the farm in Africa. Yummy with fresh farm butter.
Good for you, Howard, I am so glad the new diet is working and that you are gaining a little weight. Was somewhat worried about you, my friend. Hug for getting it right.
Had a free day from students today and guess what, had to do a whole bunch of household chores. I keep telling myself that it is good exercise but oh my goodness, the repetition is inutterably boring. Yuck, rather cook a five course menu - much more creative - love cooking, hate baking. I am the taste and smell type - like the sensory thing and no measuring for me.
Off to watch the tennis in France. Totally hooked on tennis as I am sure you are all now aware of .

Re: Quick Dry Cafe, May 2012
Today has been a bit busy. 2 mile walk at 32:55, some paperwork, off to market to get grapes and return some protein powder that was $12.00 over the price at another store and the other store had the flavor I wanted. Picked up some meds at the drugstore. Picked fresh brussells sprouts, and cooked some collards and chard. Also made some bread with unbleached flour, spelt flour and whole wheat flour, it is really tasty.
Cleared out 1/3 of the big veggie bed and composted that.
Collected and laid out to dry, seeds from my Italian Tomato plants. Should have enough for next year.
Stopped in here for a moment before heading to the studio. Working on a new piece on paper. Thinking a persimmon this time.
Chammi, the purpose of this diet is to drop weight, not put it back on. I dropped 8 and gained 4. Seems so counter productive.
Unfortunately, nutrition is taught in a 15 to 20 minute class. I have spent most of my life trying to figure out the details of good nutrition.....still a long way to go. Seems to me that food and the sharing of food should be a celebration and a joy, not a job.

Re: Quick Dry Cafe, May 2012
Where is our friend Raymo? I really miss his tongue in cheek comments. Perhaps he is away in the woods shooting possums.
Howard, I think I am misunderstanding something here in your dietary life. I thought you were actually losing too much weight. I must admit that the whole weight thing floors me. I think the way I do it suits me. I enjoy a really fab meal with friends, lots of things that are appalling to the diet fundis and then I hava a day of just eating salads, fruit juice, lots and lots of water to make up for the 'bad eating day'. Works for me. I know that you have health issues so this would probably be scorned. I think that you have such a wonderful creatitve way with preparing food that it is a crying shame to restrict you to certain foods. Oh well, I guess that we have to accept this kind of thing and live with it. Sigh!!!!!

Re: Quick Dry Cafe, May 2012
It seems Raymo has gone into hiding since I mentioned sandblasting him to clean him up. But you may be right, Chammi, he could just be on a possum hunt.

Re: Quick Dry Cafe, May 2012
Chammi, they want the weight loss to slow down not to reverse. Still have another 15 to 20 pounds to go. Just not so fast. I do take one day a week where I eat just about anything I want so I don't feel totally deprived.
This Sunday, my day of treats, I am going to have a Five Guys burger. A big old sloppy greasy burger. No fries, never have fries, and some water. Quite the elaborate treat isn't it. It will have cheese and bacon. Does that count.
Never did get out to the studio. Became enchanted with the movie "Whale Rider". Delightful and charming film about the Maori people. The culture, the imagery and the setting were all beautiful in a very symbolic and deeply moving way. The story line is fascinating to me.

Re: Quick Dry Cafe, May 2012
The pungent smell of jasmine is permeating the air these days. My early morning walks are quite fragrant as jasmine is planted in many places throughout the neighborhood.

Re: Quick Dry Cafe, May 2012
Okay Ruth, get ready, you know it was going to happen.....
My HexBug collection is now complete. I got the crab and the spider tonight.
Today was not a good diet day. I broke that little puppy into a gazillion pieces. Oh but it was wonderful. I had a Five Guys Burger, cookies, cheese sandwich crackers, you name it, if it didn't move I tried to devour it. Went to hades in a hand basket. A major crash and burn. There is always tomorrow.

Re: Quick Dry Cafe, May 2012
This morning was a little overcast, didn't think much of it. Headed out for my morning walk and there was a slight drizzle, still didn't think much about it. Then about half way around the block the sky opened up and poured. I know I said I wouldn't run, but, I ran. Still got soaked but did get some cardio in anyway. Maybe not enough but cardio is cardio.
Started back to my newest painting. Reached a point where I stopped and became wary of going further. Last night the fear shed away and I tried again. Think it is going to work. Off to a start anyway.
Robert Genn's newsletter today has hit me hard. It describes me to a "t" not only that but it needs to be capitalized and in bold face. A good reminder of something I need to work on desperately and now.
