Once A Marine Always a Marine

My latest piece. A tribute to my dad, and all military personnel. My dad was career military, and still helps vets with his work through the VA. My idea for this this was an aging hand reminiscing when looking at his yonger self in a photo. The young marine in the photo is actually my dad shaking hands with the ambassador at the time. This was done with prisma, polycolor, graphite and charcoal pencil. It is about 14X18 500 Bristol.

This is a neat concept. You did well with aging the hand, and the photograph looks awesome.

The detail in the hand and the photograph is wonderful, I think your idea has really worked very well. The faces on both gentleman are very well rendered and the whole piece is very emotive.

My only question would be -if you can alter the background colour -as it is I don't think it works well enough to show off the beautiful work you have done with the photo

. I do think a stronger background of a slightly different colour would contrast better.

Semper Fi...The Marines dress blues is just full of history.

Ali, I appreciate your insight. At first I was just going to leave a white background. It just didn't seem right. I wanted it to be warmer, and only wanted the hand and sleeve to show any color. I figured the white border on the photo would help seperate it. It is much larger in person, and doesn't seem to get as lost as in the smaller version of it here. Especially from a distance. I do appreciate all the comments!
