Better late than never!
A couple not shown yet.
Both on grey Wallis with a variety of sticks. Mostly Rembrandt.

Thank you for the thread!!

Re: 2010 Pastel Retrospective

Only just noticed this thread, what a treat to see all of the wonderful work in one place! These two are probably my favourites because in their own way they tested me more than most other paintings have.
Arnie - 12" x 10" Stonehenge and pitt pastel pencils

Chevy - 30cm x 40cm pastelmat and pitts, polys. & Rembrandts.

Hope more artists join in this thread!

Best wishes, John

Wow, yeah, that Chevy painting is just as impressive seeing it for the second time. Wonderful portrait of my former Governor (er..no comments, I didn't vote for him).

Re: 2010 Pastel Retrospective

John, wow. Did you know pastels were considered a medium for women, as it "is best suited for portraying delicate complexions"? If the guy who said it was alive, I'd love to show these two to him! Very kind of you to not name Arnold as The Governor... :-) Gorgeous car.

Pirjo, beautiful, my favo is the garlics, really wonderful colours and shapes in it!

Isaac, an easy choise, lovely.

Tatiana, beautiful paintings.

Smile Re: 2010 Pastel Retrospective

I did very little soft pastel paintings in 2010, so this would be my best pick:

I really hope Iwill do more pastel paintings this year...

Re: 2010 Pastel Retrospective

Embarassingly late to this thread.

What amazing work on show here......makes me realise how very far I still have to go.....been struggling with a few recently......

but a couple of works I was really pleased with - both grand-daughters of forum friends...... the first painted in November - my first pastel portrait

the second in December

Since then I have done little and taken 20 steps back.....

I hope to have something worthy to post in the forum before 2011 is out

Re: 2010 Pastel Retrospective

Hi,

A little late to the show but here goes.

This first painting means a lot to me because it was painted to raise funds for a children's Hospice. It raised over £500 and the winner exceeded to my wishes and donated the painting to the Hospice. I signed over copyright on the painting so that the Hospice was able to generate further fund by selling prints.

'Teddy Loving Care'

This second painting was special because it is a portrait of a close friend and fellow artist, that I often exhibit with, who likes to dress in fetish clothing. She asked me to paint her in one of her less spectacular outfits. She was very pleased with the painting and has it hanging in her studio.

When she first saw the painting she wondered where the red panties had come from? But i felt the red gave focus to the painting.

'Zara...Sitting'

Happy painting all.

John

Re: 2010 Pastel Retrospective

Just got around to adding my two to all these wonderful works.
I felt these are my best because I actually got a likeness in both AND my children agreed so I feel I am finally making progress!
Both wallis paper with various pastels and pastel pencils.
