Glad you liked Grayson Perry Earl, of cause he is contemporary so we don’t know what his eventual impact on society will be. But we do know the impact Lois Mailou Jones had on the Harlem Renaissance and later on with Pan-Africanist W.E.B. Du Bois great swathes of the whole of Africa.
The reason my work is dead is that it has no relevance, at best it is some sort of personal escape from life but with no meaning to anybody including me, it’s completely thoughtless, something Perry and Jones never were or are.
“What peaches and what penumbras! Whole families shopping at night! Aisles full of husbands! Wives in the avocados, babies in the tomatoes!—and you, Garcia Lorca, what were you doing down by the watermelons?”
— Allen Ginsberg
