Apologies for the above, but the correct web address is:

I am sorry for any inconvenience.

Kind regards.

Re: UK and other European artists - pencil, paper, supply info

www.c-r-a.co.uk sell sets of Lyra Rembrandt polycolor plus many others in sets including caran d'ache supracolor, prismalo & pablo (supracolor also in open stock.
www.homecrafts.co.uk have bruynzeel in sets (plus others)

For anybody in UK buying Prismacolor - it will save you a lot of cash to order from the USA even taking into account the postage.

If anyone knows of a stockist in the UK of Caran D'ache Pablos in open stock I would love to know.

Karen

Re: UK and other European artists - pencil, paper, supply info

I've used two on-line stores for supplies - both supplied promptly and well packaged

Heaton Cooper in Grasmere http://www.heatoncooper.co.uk in the Lake District (home of Derwent) has a brilliant well organised website and a good range of stock including:
  • Karismacolor Aquarelle
  • Caran d'Ache Watercolour Leads
  • Derwent - various makes including the Signature Lightfast
  • Lyra Splender blender pencil
  • a wide range of paper including some very unusual papers

Yorkshire Art Store - I'be bought Karisma from here (mainly to get colours I couldn;t get anywhere else) and also bought some great Derwent Pencil Wraps - which came with 10 Derwent pastel pencils free with each wrap! The ordering system is a bit tortuous though.
http://www.yorkshireartstore.co.uk/system/index.htm

Good shops in London include
1) Paintworks on Kingsland High Street, Hackney - usually have a good range of Karismacolor and a good range of paper
2) Atlantis - just off Whitechapel Road (behind the mosque) - absolutely massive supplies warehouse on two floors. They have an excellent range of paper inncluding some seen nowhere else but not Stonehenge! They stock a very good range of Canson Mi-teintes. They also have ready made frames in tulip wood at reasonable prices - I found it a considerable incentive to start drawing to predetermined sizes!
3) London Graphic Centre in Covent Garden (large shop on two floors) - not very well attuned to colour pencil but good stocks of Arches, Fabriano etc

Also in Europe:
excellent art shop in Arezzo (Tuscany) - I spent a fortune on Karisma in that shop! It's just down the hill going west from the chuch with brilliant frescos
Good art shop on the SW outskirts of Carcassonne - doesn;t look in the least like an art shop from the outside and half of it is devoted to interior design but very good range of paper from various sources plus Caran d'Ache.

I'd like to add another art store to the list:

www.boesner.com.
Boesner has direct stores in 19 locations in Germany, two in Austria, two in France and one in Switzerland. They also accept international orders.
I live nearby the swiss store and love spending a Saturday morning in the store! Huge selection of everything art-related.

.. and some more links for France, I don't know the stores but they look good on the internet :
www.dalbe.fr
www.les-couleurs-du-temps.com
www.creastore.com

take care,
Amira

I've not been on this forum for long but I thought I'd add another site to the list.
http://www.greatart.co.uk
I came across this whilst looking for Faber Castell polychromos pencils and they have the 120 Boxed Set for £158.00 which is the cheapest I can find in the UK.
They are also giving away a wooden arts material case on orders over £75.

Re: UK and other European artists - pencil, paper, supply info

Derwent pencils are superb! They make all sorts from drawing to watercolour to Inktense and Graphitone. I use them almost exclusively. Coloursoft are really lovely.

All Derwent pencils can be bought singly from Jacksons.

www.artdiscount.co.uk

is another site I use. They are a company called Granthams based in Blackpool and have recently expanded their range. Their range is nowhere near as huge as Jacksons but the prices are so competitive they do a deal if you find them cheaper elsewhere they can match it.

Delivery is excellent as is customer service.

What I can't get here I get in Jacksons.

The problem I have though is that it is hard to know what to buy if IU can't physically touch or feel or try somethign out. It is a lot to pay out £10f or something only to find it is either no different to something you already have or of no use. I haven't found anywhere I can get samples.

There is also a national homewares shop called 'The Range' in the UK. It sells both student and a small range of artists products, a lot of which are even cheaper than the on-line discount sites. I have had some excellent bargains from there in Derwent pencil deals. I got 24 Coloursoft with an desk easel/store box and a sketchbook for less than £20.

Thumbs up Re: UK and other European artists - pencil, paper, supply info

I found a new online-shop in Germany who - jipppiieeeeeh - sells Prismas and Stonehenge paper and Strathmore!!!!!
And of course Derwents, but there are some more shops here but no one before where I could buy my beloved Prismas and the Stonehenge paper.
The owner is a member here too and the shop is growing - lucky me. I started a huge order today.

Sounds almost too good to be true ... and they are not even expensive ... although postage can cost a fortune ... at least model railroad supplies are terribly expensive to mail and color pencils are physically even heavier ... is that eerie sound coming from my wallet, screaming in terror? ... anybody know how to soothe & relieve & calm a frightened wallet? ...

My favourite shop http://www.lawrence.co.uk/acatalog/P...d_Crayons.html

And they will send you a free catalogue (UK only, other countries have to pay), so you can sit down with your cuppa and enter heaven!

This company, located in Germany, has been mentioned above - but now they carry Ampersand and Art Spectrum Colourfix papers/boards.

http://www.farbstifte.net/index.php

They also carry open stock Caran d'Ache Luminance 6901 pencils.
