Re: Who we are

Wow! Gorgeous landscape - the back country trips sound so wonderful. You could put together a plein air kit that fits in saddlebags and away you go! Your horse is beautiful, I love how the markings on a bay look like those on a Siamese cat. Almost like a cave painting horse.

So cool you've been self employed that long. Taxidermy was something I wanted to do as a kid, didn't ever get the chance and now know my disabilities would have seriously interfered. I'm always fascinated by taxidermy mounts. Do you still have any of the ones you did before? They'd rock for animal drawing, better than photos.

Re: Who we are

I don't have any, but I did a buck for a friend a few years back and was amazed at how much I had forgotten, it had been 18 years. I got to work on animals from all over the world, the man I worked for had wealthy clients and we regularly did African, Alaskan, even Russian wildlife. We even did some work for Cabellas...those of you who have been in one have seen the huge wildlife dioramas, some of those we did It was more difficult this time due to my particular disability, too. I could never return to it as a profession now.

I haven't really made the plunge to plein air. I have a friend that used to do a lot of it, and she rolls her eyes at all my studio painting. I have done a few, and I really enjoy it as long as it's perfect outside. Ha.

Here is the buck I did a few years ago, he is right up the road, I could probably borrow him anytime

Re: Who we are

Sarah, wow! Love that buck! Would you please add him to the Reference Image Library? He's stunning and I can't tell that he wasn't alive in the shot. You were good as a taxidermist! I'd love to paint him.

Adding photos to the RIL (Reference Image Library) isn't that hard. You have to go back to the HOME link at the top of the page under the WetCanvas logo to get the drop down menus to work. Then click on Content Areas and when it drops down, choose Reference Image Library. This will take you to its opening page, which has an upload link on it more or less at the top. I think it's on the right. It's visible if you look over the page for the link anyway, I found it without too much trouble when I uploaded stuff - and I do so infrequently so I have to remember how to get there every time. Fibromyalgia means my memory is a steel trap - it mangles anything that gets into it.

I would love to see your buck and those dioramas in person. Now you're tempting me to go looking for a museum with mounts here in San Francisco some time.

Re: Who we are

Ha ha Robert, mind like a steel trap! Funny you should mention it, I spent some time this afternoon uploading images to the RIL. I will add the buck tomorrow. I have other angles, too, but they aren't natural looking as he is on a wall. Too bad I don't have bunches of pics from back when I did it professionally. I have some but they are actual photos that need to be scanned, and I am a long way from ever getting around to that project!

I added him to the RIL Robert, along with several other photos of him. Enjoy
