"Drink at Dawn" Clydesdale Mare & Foal watercolor 5x7"
SFA - Small Format Art.
Watercolor 5x7"
"Drink at Dawn" - Clydesdale mare and day-old foal.
It really was dawn. I got up at 3am to drive to a friend's home in the hills, to get early morning photos, and I was well-rewarded - it was the only sun of the day.
I guess this can be western/southwestern?

Great work, Jillian! You really captured that early morning sun. Such a sweet bond between mother and baby. I like the way you painted the dappled coat of the mare. Nice work!

Don't you love it when you make that spontaneous photography effort and it pays off? I'm reminded of my "babies" when they were born 5 years ago. . . . Nothing is sweeter than new foals.

Oh for sure. A storm was blowing in. The dawn sun was peeking in UNDER the heavy cloud bank. One awesome photo I have, that I'll paint some day is mare and foal heading off into the orchards, over the hill with dark purple gray cloud as a back drop, and they are in the sun.
Newborn anything (just about) are pretty neat, but love the curiosity of a new foal.

Jillian, beautiful painting. You can't beat that early morning light. The light and the subject make for a very appealing composition.
