Re: Lady of the Glade....

Very well done Susan!!!!!

You are inspiring me to do a painting of a "Posemaniacs"! Maybe that will help me get over this "block" I'm in over portraits. It would be refreshing to paint a pleasing image and NOT have the requirement of it looking like my subject!! My "subject's" features can be of my choosing!

Again, I just love this!

Re: Lady of the Glade....

Know what Susan?
While constructive criticism is good, we all have to remember that each of us see things differently.
I have watched your evolving art style over the years, and your Nudes are wonderful. Your tones and feelings come through so beautifully.
If others seem to think that their style of painting is "better" maybe they should leave yours alone and do one in their own style, and not try to change yours.
Don't lose your confidence because someone feels that you are not painting in the way they want.
Your style is unique and please, please keep it up.
Your type of perfection so differs from those that trace and copy exactly
~~My opinion only

Dee....thank you!! Sometimes it is nice not to have a person to deal with....lol Can you imagine how a model would have been complaining about the pose?

Well done Susan! Love the flesh colors you've used. A difficult subject to paint which you've handled well.

Re: Lady of the Glade....

Hey Sue well I gotta give ya credit, took a peek at the posemaniacs and honestly some of them are so distorted I think you did great just putting flesh on her! Don't know if you have ever seen the Virtual Pose ones but that's pretty cool, come on a disc, you can rotate them 360 degrees and they don't look like aliens haha There is an old thread here on WC (http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/show...95#post7767895) but not sure the freebies are downloadable anymore but there are a some of examples. I have the children's one but clothed, all very tastefully done and poses aren't over the top and free to paint, draw whatever after purchase, check it out you might want to invest sometime, they're not that expensive, here's their store and I believe they have a sample you can actually turn and view to see what that's all about...haha http://www.virtualpose.net/greenstore/

Okay all that to say I think you did well kiddo I doubt I could have done better myself given the reference.

Hugs,
Elaine

Re: Lady of the Glade....

Thanks Elaine....I will check them out! Due to a number of dif reasons, I was looking for a very "submissive" pose....and this one read that to me....otherwise I NEVER would have tried it! Thanks for looking!! {{{hugs!!}}}

Re: Lady of the Glade....

Susan, your painting looks great! I would only say that the head looks a bit smallish for the body. Relative proportions are always an issue - Maybe you will want to make the head look a little bigger? You did such a great job on the hair, if not I understand - but I think you could extend the head shape (the hair anyway), if you wanted to. You could always use tracing paper to see what it would look like if you did, or if you have Photoshop, just "scale" the head larger to see if you would like it. In any event, she looks terrific, and as always, your colors are very good and the foliage looks natural. Nature at its best!
By the way, I have the opposite problem - When I do figures, the heads are usually "too big" for the body, and I have to really try to make the head shape or silhouette -smaller- than my instinct tells me, and thereby the head ends up looking more correct in proportion.
Cathy

Re: Lady of the Glade....

Carol....thank you!! I added to it one time to make it bigger...lol....guess it was my alter ego without the swelled head....I may look at it again...I am sure there are things I could fix without too much trouble, but I am not starting over again. Maybe if it was on canvas, but not this. You and my sister in law are the ones to ask about head next time...thanks!

Thank you Pat!! I appreciate it!!
