Can you repair a botched scratchboard?

I have started a piece and do not like the eyes. Can you repair a board one you begin scratching?

Re: Can you repair a botched scratchboard?

Jeniep,

I have found that using black Ampersand Scratchbord Inks can be applied over scratches to soften them. If you use a thick layer of ink, it will cover them up completely but may leave a light smudge. I'm not sure why this is and am about to post a topic regarding that...

After the ink dries, you can scratch over it and the old marks usually get covered up by the new. Once you spray your final piece with fixative, any smudges should largely disappear.

Good luck!

I know that this thread is 3 months old but I'll post on it anyway. If the scratches aren't too deep or too big of an area to cover, a dark grey or black Pitt pen can be used. Before it dries wipe it with your finger or it might be a little shiny. If you have deep scratches and a small area to fix you can get a repair kit from Ampersand OR what I do is take a scrap whiteboard and scrape some of the clay into a pile, wet it and putty in th scratches with it. When dry sand it gently and it should be ready to go.
