Caged

My little take on Surrealism fantasy. Not to be taken seriously, just having fun and working on painting techniques. The blended background is not as successful as I wanted to be. It’s hard with acrylics. Still working on those skills. Any comments and tips on blending acrylics techniques would be greatly appreciated. This is on 8 x 10 canvas board. I think the name of it will be called “Caged” or “Happy Cat”.

Re: Caged

They both look happy to me, so nice work and the caged bird can sing... even while he is trapped inside of a cat!

Re: Caged

Welcome artwolf to our little corner of Wet Canvas!
I like it!
Nice concept and artwork.
There is a Heart record cover with a similar "bird cage" but the form is a woman.
The tongue out is so cute my cat does that and I find it charming.
For blending Acrylics I love and use a great deal Atelier clear painting medium mid viscosity, the reason I like this one best is because it does not alter the sheen level.
Looking forward to more of your artworks!

Re: Caged

Thank you all. I will post more art soon. I love this forum. Very inspiring to look at the other works and here from the other artists. I learned quite a lot. Thank you Tal for the hint on the medium, I'll be looking in to it.

Re: Caged

That's really unusual lol. They do both look happy while at the same time it's kind of freaky.

Getting a smooth blend with acrylics can be tricky. I like Jerry Yarnell's method of using a lot of water and a large hake brush. I do that for blue skies, usually have to do it a couple of times, letting it dry completely between layers. And it's much easier to paint the whole background first, then paint the foreground on top.

Or skip the blending and go for a mottled background.
