I finally got out to paint today for the first time in a long time. My focus for a while is tonal studies*...I had so much fun with this today, and it was really nice to not worry about color. Only one painting...because standing still in below-freezing weather made even my snow-loving self cold!

All of you with back yards don't know how lucky you are! I wish I could get out more often.

Sweet, It surely looks like one could bump into that lion anytime.

These kind of studies are a great way to learn about the values. Friend of mine spent a year doing only value studies. He got them really well sorted out.

And like they say, values do the job and the color takes all the credit

Except for that blue sky, you are almost rendering the scene as is, colorwise! will try to get out there too by saturday, nice contrast. You could say that you used just about every color Gamblin makes for this one because in reality, you did with that torrit, they just premixed for you.

Jessica, you could pretend you were in Narnia and paint the lamppost, too! Maybe a sleigh with the witch queen in it? I see you toned the surface, which really helps the grays look rich instead of dead!
