Re: 3 small studies

All paintings looks superb, Derek. A good example of acrylic underpaintings!

Re: 3 small studies

Magnificent, as usual. Still exploring grays, I see.

May I ask: Are your greens primarily in the underpainting, or oil glaze (or some combination)? I visualize an underpainting in gray, with black for details, possibly using yellow ochre in some areas, then glazed with phthalo green (and similar colors) in the foliage.

Really lovely - all three of them! I agree with the comment upthread about the very realistic rendering of the grass texture - not an easy thing to achieve, I'm sure.

Nice work!
I guess the second one is everyone's favorite. So is mine.

Re: 3 small studies

Sorry I'm late Pinguino:
For the underpainting of the second two paintings.
Sap green and various grays with black in careful values (acrylic) for foliage.
For buildings: paynes gray, ivory black, T. White.
For finish: foliage.....perm. Green, perm. green light, olive green mixed with lemon yellow, cad yellow light.

Re: 3 small studies

You seem to have a penchant for nature's textures, all very good examples here.
