Radhika - 12" x 14"

This was supposed to be a quick portrait, but ended up taking more time than I expected. I originally did the hair more finely detailed, but painting smooth thin lines in wet to wet was beyond my skill level. So I decided to play with different textures: hair, skin, lips, eyes, all trying to do them in a way to express the texture.

Not that happy with this one, but some bits work well. The photo doesn't capture the value range that well either.

Utterly gorgeous! Hair color on the top and the eyebrows are beautifully done. I can't stop looking at her eyes and lips.

The only distracting thing for me is that some of the shadow below her neck and on the left of her face are as black as on the top left area of her hair.

Thanks Bhindi

Yes, there are some mistakes. The shadows in those areas were very dark because of the lighting used in the photo I worked from, but probably not quite that dark. The photo of the painting has crushed the darks to black a bit though.

100% agree with bhindi. The face is ooohhhh amazing! But the shadow around the ear and on the neck is too dark. Although, again, being amazed by the face, I did not pay attention to the shadow first.

"painting smooth thin lines in wet to wet was beyond my skill" - I thought you work exclusively wet in wet? Want some super quick drying paint?

You're not that happy with this one??? Are you joking? That painting is stunning!!! The brushwork in the skin is masterful! This painting will be around for a long long time because it's so good that it will be cared for, for generations to come.

Exceptional work Richard. The shadows do not look quite black on my screen, but I am looking at it from a very good screen, so I can see some of the reddish brown darks in there. I can fully understand why a camera would push that value to flat black, the contrast next to the lighter colors is pretty strong. This really is such a stunning piece, the texture of the lips is fantastic.

Why thank you all. I guess I have a bit of artists curse in that I only see all the faults and flaws..
