Re: ~ The Letter ~ From whom- to whom

Carol, having read the other comments I must say I agree. I did not immediately recognise the letter....having looked again I can see it is a long, narrow one. As others have said, greeked writing would establish it as such...or maybe part of the envelope peeking out from under it?

Overall, it's nicely balanced, and I love the soft, inviting lighting.

I am goin to try to add just a few words to the letter. we'll see how that goes.

Open to any positive idea's and thoughts

Well this is a real touch of class and beauty My Lady and from life so impressive ....I love it the treatment of the lamp itself is fantastic ... Ok a few things you might like to look at from what I am seeing , and these are just suggestions ......the lamp is as said wonderful , Maybe if you were to make the light side of the lamp base abit more defined meaning the edges here and there where the light areas hit it would start to make this area more cohesive , because if we look to the shadow side of the lamp base that naturally feels like it's rounding back into space ...as it should ...so making the light side stand to attention more will help bring things more into focus.... That applies to most objects ...the closer a object is to the light source the more the object is defined by our eyes ...

I certainly don't think getting rid of the table legs is a option , sorry Alison but I find that remark completely strange ... , I would make one last thought Carol,if I may , maybe the bg is for abit to similar at the moment as everything else and therefore a more contrasting tone would set everything more so into perpesctive or at least a more subtle tone ....

Once again just this persons thoughts ...but I love the beautiful classical feel you have to your work ....and I'm envious of your still life props lady ....

Further to Alison's comment...If you 'lose' both the top of the painting above the lamp and the table legs at the bottom by introducing deeper shadows it will throw the table top into focus and hence what's on it? just a thought....

The changes are a success, in my opinion. The writing draws attention to the letter, along with the golden sparkle on the tea cup. And, of course the best part for me, the lamp still glows!

Re: ~ The Letter- retried again ~

Carol, the original was beautiful, but the changes that you've added have made a HUGE difference, and have taken this piece to a new level. Adding the suggestion of writing to the letter helps to define it & give it the importance that it deserves. In the original, the background wallpaper was so busy that it was competing with the center of interest. Toning it down, giving it a darker value, and making it recede, allows the letter & other objects on the table to be highlighted by the glow from the lamp.

You've given more dimension to the lamp base, given the table a greater richness, and have created a warm and wonderful mood.

Brava !!

Thank you very much sandi. After some suggestions I did work on it some more and probably learned some more.

Really nice.
If I had some money, and space to hang it, I'd buy that.
