Jim, your horse looks so gentle in expression.

Cindy, well done. Full of vigor on that kick.

I was practicing gestures for figure drawing and decided to put some clothes on her.

Foreshortening is harder than I think.

Sandra..you display much bravery in tackling subject matter that is difficult to draw and always bring it to life. Though the bottom portion of the leg may not be quite correct the vest on the woman fits like a glove and is so well drawn and hangs so correctly.

Great job.

Sandra, this is so very cool! Human anatomy is really, really tough to master, and it's always a struggle. I think you've handled it quite well. She looks like one tough lady!

Thank you, Max, Jenna, Donna. I have to figure out how to make those foreshortened legs show.

Here are a couple more doodles.

Your figure drawings are great, Sandra. And all the practice will do a lot of good in the long run. Great horses too! Very nice work!

Great stuff, Sandra! As always, your pigs make me smile, especially in the last sketch. So cute! I love the goat too. Well done!

It prompted me to do a quick sketch of this Hopi Girl from a photo in the book.
Didn't turn out too good cause all I had handy was a piece of w/c paper and a pencil that needed sharpening. BTW, the paper is white! I don't know why these turn out like some 300 year old drawing.

Max, I really enjoyed ALL the faces and figures that you've posted here. They have such solemn strength of expression. Well done! I look forward to seeing more and more!

Re: Quick Draw Thread - May, June & July, 2013

Thank you, Donna, Jenna.

These are from US National Archives Flickr site.

Co Mo Sketchbook 5.5 x 8 inch

I now truly understand why some journals state it's pen and ink and light wash only. This sketchbook couldn't take conventional heavy wash and I've been abusing it all these pages. But when I do light wash, it behaves so well.

Neocolor 2 and wash and fountain pen.

Same sketchbook. Fountain pen and Daniel Smith Payne's Gray.

A quick sketch with green food coloring in a Paintastic bruch pen from Crayola. Still Co-Mo Sketchbook.

Great works, as always, Sandra! My first thought was "Those poor deer!" but I've seen many photos like this drawing being here in Wisconsin. Hunting is huge here. The wall/buildings are amazing! They are so moody and edgy. I love that one. And that last one...food coloring? Why not? I always thought it would be fun to do a whole painting using fingernail polish.

Re: Quick Draw Thread - May, June & July, 2013

Thank you, Donna, Jenna.

Practicing watercolor and Neocolor 2 in Strathmore gray toned sketchbook which I turned into burnt sienna with some acrylic. Then added watercolor and colored pencil and marker for necklace. Gouache white for highlight. This page originally had some beginnings of Manchu Picchu in fountain pen.

This is based on your photo, Jenna. As I carefully tried to sculpt the face, I kept thinking how joyful and beautiful you are. I have been wrecking my brain recently on what type of art I should do to show God's glory as I try to improve on pen and ink and watercolor and I have to say this was one moment that glowed with meaning and enlightment - peaceful, calm faces. I didn't do too good a job on the face but I like how the garment came out. Thank you for sharing your photo, Jenna.

Daniel Smith Watercolor duotone purple, Pentel Calligraphy pocket brush pen, Platinum carbon fine point fountainpen on Stillman & Birn Epsilon 100 lb spiral bound 5.5 x 8.5 inch.

This was based on a photo from a previous challenge at this section before.

Pen Sketcher's 5.5 x 8 inch sketchbook, Platinum Carbon fountain pen with Lamp black watercolor M. Graham.

Fabriano Ingres paper, pen and prismacolor pencil.
