Re: Quick Draw Thread - May, June & July, 2013

Wow, Jan, this one is lovely. The salmon color spreckled so well here and there and it has such life in it!! Well done! I wish I could paint water and trees like that.

Clint Eastwood.

I'm definitely in the mood for red, black and white.

Earthbound kraft sketchbook 8x10 inch
Mitsubishi Hi- Uni pencil 4B
Neocolor 2 red crayon

The more I use Necolor 2 crayons, the more I appreciate it. It doesn't dirty the opposing page like oil pastel does and in a pinch I could always wash it.

6x6 ink sketch, imaginary Indian warrior I'm going to call Chief Horsefeather for lack of a proper title; this one will be developed further.

I'm enjoying all the super photos Jenna posted and all the creations you folks are turning out!

Jan, this is stunning! The colors are like jewels and the paper choice makes it all pop in the most wonderful way. Excellent work!

Sandra, this is awesome! I love the pose; it really draws the viewer in. Nice color choices too!

Kay, I am glad you plan to develop this piece further; it really has a quality to it. It's powerful and emotional. I look forward to seeing the finish on this one!

Sandra and Jenna, thanks for the kind words! I surprised myself with how well the water turned out.

Re: Quick Draw Thread - May, June & July, 2013

Kay, that Indian has so much poise to him. I'd love to see how it comes out in color. Do you draw another one on watercolor paper when you do these paintings? This is like just a sketch in a sketchbook and you don't color right on it?

Btw, for all those who have been following my health, I want to thank you for your constant thoughts and prayers. Last week, after a CT-PET scan, the doctor said that my cancer is now under control. Instead of the tumors in eight locations of my body, everything has disappeared except the originating lung cell which has shrunk from 4 cm to 2 cm. She told me I could live for the time being as a normal person. Real my blog entry on this page.

I also write On Going Home to the Lord for those who like a Christian perspective.

Thank you, everyone! Your encouragement all this time helped!

Re: Quick Draw Thread - May, June & July, 2013

Sandra...that is wonderful news for not only yourself but for those of us who are concerned for you. So now, get back to making some marks on paper for us.

Scatdaddy...I can relate to that first saddle experience. After several of those scenes generated by yours truly I finally learned to take some of the 'dust' out of the situation by taking some time with a long fairly heavy rope to desentisize them by running it over and around them until it was old hat. Course, that don't always work.

Kay...good imagination on old chief horsefeathers. I like the line work you have done there and the strong facial features.

Jan (studio 1-F) nice work on the water scene.

Sandra, I am rejoicing for you tonight! What excellent news! What a fight you've had, and what a fighter you are. I'm so thankful to hear this. We just found out that my aunt has pretty serious cancer (stage 4), so your story offers some hope for me when I needed to hear it too. I am so happy to hear this! Congratulations!

Thank you, Jenna. And yes, please tell your aunt to keep fighting. I think one of the factors that helped was I dropped meat, dairy and sugar from my diet totally, and swim 8 laps and walk 45 mins everyday. And a positive state of mind with encouragement from people around her like you all did for me. Instill hope!!

Here's another Clint Eastwood in Chinese brush and sumi ink.

The gold rim is liquid tempera gold paint. The bull is Japanese markers, Faber Castell Pitt markers and Pentel Calligraphy pocket brush pen and Derwent Drawing Pencil. I finally understand how to extend and dilute the color of Faber Castell Pitt India ink pens, by using a water based color marker.

4x6 inch Fabriano Artist Journal

Went on a wildflower event and artist walk today.

This one needs to squeak by. Howard Pyle's horse.

Prismacolor pencils.

Sandra, you amaze me with your ability to so swiftly churn out so many great drawings and paintings! I love the Clint Eastwood in ink - awesome piece! And what a great capture of the wooly cow! Wow, what can I say about all these beautiful, sunny flowers? Amazing work, and that last one makes me smile. Great work!

Posted a couple on the monthly challenge that I did this afternoon. After posting I started playing around with a crop and liked just this portion of one that I posted. It is only about 1.5" x 1.5" (head only) but looks so much different enlarged.

Pastel on newsprint..full figure about 7x8"

Re: Quick Draw Thread - May, June & July, 2013

The SW forum is sure slow these days. There are some who really keep it going but lot are just looking and not doing. Come on people..dig something out or up.

Ran across this oldie of Wolf Robe done in 98 looking through an old book. I had forgotten it so here 'tis.

It prompted me to do a quick sketch of this Hopi Girl from a photo in the book.
Didn't turn out too good cause all I had handy was a piece of w/c paper and a pencil that needed sharpening. BTW, the paper is white! I don't know why these turn out like some 300 year old drawing.
