Re: Sandra's Challenge

Great to see your sketches here, Sandra! I really love the two horse and rider images - especially the cropping on the first one. Prayers and positive energy coming your way from here!

How about a...Roadrunner?

Lovely cactus, Sandra! The colors are delicious! I just love the rich background color - it really makes the cactus pop!

Re: Sandra's Challenge

Just had a few minutes before bed last night to do some sketching, so I tackled the spur and the cowboy boot. Nothing too fancy, but it was fun to give this a go.

Re: Sandra's Challenge

Thank you, John, Catherine, Jenna.

Jenna, such a much more detailed assembly of the spurs. Does the horse feel the prick very badly when you kick the spurs in?

John, there was a roadrunner right behind the cactus earlier on but here's another one and its rambunctious half.

Fountain pen
Portfolio Watersoluable oil pastel
Pentalic sketchbook 70 lb 5.5 x 8 inch

Some rocks I copied from a Donald Hills book on SW landscape.

It's more of a pinch, most spur rowels aren't that sharp although my saddle slipped off once during a competition and after all was said and done my horse had a nasty cut on his back where my spur dug in when I fell. It wasn't very deep, just the "hair layer" had been dug up. He was a red roan and when the hair grew back he had a strange reddish brown line across his back

Re: Sandra's Challenge

Great work on that roadrunner, Sandra, as well as the rocks! The roadrunner has so much personality! Thanks for the nice comments. I couldn't say with the spurs - I've never ridden horse wearing spurs, in fact, I've never worn spurs. Though, spurs like these are usually more for show than for function I think.

Great cactus, Maria! It's got a great style! Nice work.

Re: Sandra's Challenge

Good quick cactus, Maria.

Here are two cactus flowers I think from previous Quick Draw photos or SW challenge photos. Today, I used mostly daniel smith watercolor and Necolor II crayon and wash.

Daler Rowney 5x7 inch classic cachet sketchbook 100 lb beige

Raffine 6x6 inch sketchbook beige 100 lb

Re: Sandra's Challenge

Thanks! No, those are inks and markers. My favorite quick draw mediums!

Here are two more! Also inks and India ink. Sometimes I use scrapbooking inks for the backgrounds, so that is why the look like painted!

Lovely paintings, Sandra! They are so vivid and bright and cheerful. Love the last one especially!

What a cool style you have, Maria! Love the illustrative feel of these two. Great work!

Sandra, the watercolor flowers are so great! I'm still struggling with watercolor, I'm so envious!
