Sandra's Challenge

Sandra,

I know you're going through a tough time lately and a thought came to me today. Seeing how much you love to sketch and draw I thought it would be fun to throw out a challenge out there, something to do to keep your awesome skillz sharp

So, I propose that we all post a word and you (or anybody else that would like to join in) will have to sketch, draw, paint or whatever. South West/ Western theme preferred. NO pressure, if you're not up to it that's cool....we'll keep it fun and just make a bit of a game out of it.

So let the challenge begin!!

Re: Sandra's Challenge

Here's my attempt at the spur. I was entirely too lazy to get up and go get a spur to use as a reference so I just googled an image

Re: Sandra's Challenge

What a wonderful idea, Donna! I'm happy you thought of it. Great work on the spur!

Sandra, we are here for you, and hope this will bring you some cheer.

A quick note to everyone - there will not be a Quick Draw thread this month. Instead, we've decided that we will dedicate the sketches to Sandra's Challenge. So please feel free to participate and shout out a SW/W sketching idea.

Re: Sandra's Challenge

Thank you, Donna, for this challenge. It's so fun to be able to do this. I peeked at the prompt last night before I went to bed...or trying to go to bed. Valium didn't knock me out as my head churns. After resting, I got to work!!

You're fast at your spur.

I saw Rick's Saddle prompt too. Shoot, I missed cem's cactus. That gives me something to come back to later on. And Jenna's boot is a natural.

Caran D'Ache Neocolor II with wash
Koh I Noor Progresso 6B Woodless pencil
Vietnamese sketchbook

Uniball pen

Classic Cachet 5x7 inch black sketchbook
Faber Castell Polychromos colored pencils - have to use the metallic ones!!!
Prismacolor pencil red = even if it's fugitive. I'm going to indulge in all the psychedelic colors I've been avoiding all these months.

And now that I know it's a mutating rare lung cancer, I'm not even going to go near soft pastels or pastel pencils. Colored pencils will definitely be the new favored medium along with watermedia.

Pentel Calligraphy brushpen
Academie Heavyweight 80 lb sketchbook 9x12 inch

And here's the one I like:

Spur n Saddle
Fur n Twaddle

Green gel pen
Lyra 6B graphite crayon and wash
Pen & Ink fountain pen waterproof ink
Academie Heavyweight 8.5 x 11 inch 3/4 page 80 lb

This is all very educational. I have to youtube what spurs and saddles look like on shoe and horse parts, and how they all fit together.

Hope to see other member's sketches too. Don't let me hoard the space.

Re: Sandra's Challenge

Wow, Sandra that spur is awesome!! Love all the sketches, can't wait to see what you do with the colored pencils. I've tried them but they just seem a mystery to me, I can't figure them out just yet

All right the rest of y'all, let's see what you got!

Re: Sandra's Challenge

Sandra, these are just wonderful! That spur is awesome! I like how it appears to be spinning. Love the saddles, too. Saddles are such complex things, and you handled that really nicely. Keep up the great work, and I look forward to seeing more.

I'm off to try my hand at one or two of these things, myself.

Hey Maria, it's good to see another metroplexian (I don't think that's really a word but who cares ) Are you more on the Dallas side? Or Cowtown?

Re: Sandra's Challenge

Thank you, Donna, Maria, Jenna, for comments.

I was supposed to sleep within 15 mins of taking my medication especially the sleeping pill but I think I overshot by three hours doing these two pieces.

One piece is posted here. The other piece is this one.

prismacolor pencil, watercolor, then laden with luxurious oil pastels Neopastel, Sennelier, Holbein, Erengi.

Pentalic 5.5x8 inch sketchbook

One of the enjoyment of putting so much color on a simple sketchbook like this is that you just don't expect it and then the page opens up and it brightens the room, just because these pages are really expected to have little sketches and not full colored pieces. But I like it so much more when it's full color like this.

These are all great, Sandra! So glad your able to sketch. Your funny ones are always a treat for me. Hang in there. I went to your long road blog and was reading what your going through. Im sorry this is happening to you. But your strength and strong attitude is inspiring.
