my niece - WIP

An interesting article prompted me to try some of the principles it mentioned. I mainly wanted to pay attention to core shadows and reflected light.

For reference I chose an image of my niece. She isn't anywhere near as serious as the photo would have you believe. I'm not sure that I captured her personality very well.

I tried to get my measurements right, but I ran out of patience and forged ahead.

Here is the reference photo. I haven't decided how far to take this. I admire the people that have the patience to render hair. This is something I need to learn to bear.

If you did nothing else, it would still be quite lovely. I just love the way you did the eyes. And I noticed that you didn't blend the skin. It is really nice.

This has been fascinating to watch. I, too, like the fact that the pencil strokes are very much a part of the picture. They add a lot of depth to this.

Thanks Carol and Roslyn. I tend to like enjoy hatching because of my background in scratchboard. Old habits die hard, and I do have a thing for the linear.
