Best Frame Size For A Family Portrait

I have a new family portrait given to me by my friend but I wanted to have a little adjustment. Is it still possible for a portrait to adjust its frame size? I mean get another frame for it? What frame size will look good in a family portrait? Any website where I can choose frame size and style?

Thank you in advance.

Personally, I'd like to have a bit of air around the people, add a mat or two and have a nice frame. I'd say it pretty much depends on the layout of the portrait, how many people are in it, etc. I've never ordered frames online, so I can't help you there. If you look around, I've seen something like this subject come up before.
