The committee -wip

Second try at coffee plus color.
Used masking liquid before the coffee. This is going off all on its own. I have no idea what it will look like.

The first small photo shows the coffee color better and I took off the masking and the paper is very rough, low poundage wc paper and I think I will just leave it all rough around the edges.
Night photos always look bad... redo in the morning.

DJ, this is really cool, as usual. But I keep wondering about the coffee - how do you stablize it so it doesn't fade out or turn a weird color?

Re: The committee -wip

I wrote a paper archivist. She was very helpful and said what determines pH and acidity and archival properties is what goes ON the paper. My water is so alkaline out here it may be almost too base. The same fading and light stability applies to coffee as to many watercolor pigments. I personally like all the weird colors, however that come out. I don't PAINT with it, just tone the paper.
I am planning to drench this in UV protectant sealer and then varnish. I always tell people, even under glass, if they hang a piece in direct sunlight there is going to be fading. We work hard to counteract it, but it is the job of the owner to keep the "warranty" good.

The research I am doing is making me very confident that good materials in - good preservation will pay off in little CONSERVATION.

dj--I don't think the colors or textures are off at all--bright or muted it works either way. The old guy's expression is just priceless. Why do they all look like that?

These fellows look like the genuine article, and are portrayed really excellently in this piece. Impressive!

Re: The committee -wip

Thank you all for the positive support! I am thinking of whether this one should hang in a small local show or I should hold them for the big ones I plan on (hahahaha) later in the year. Only the one asks for no local shows. I might see how many of this type I can do in the next couple of weeks and see if I can work to a "look".

Tomorrow I have potential LONG HORN and Brahma ... and MAYBE my buffalo ...shoots on a list.

Fingers so crossed I am having trouble typing!
