For this portrait of Edith I used, Winsor Yellow, Red, and Blue plus white, not a palette I would usually use for anything.

A quick effort at the lady in lemen-4. Just had to do something, as I have not painted for week..feels absolutely criminal .

Just charcoal.

Well, Here's where I am. Sorry for the bad photo. I had to take it in a dark room. Everywhere else showed too much glare.

Re: January 2014 PORTRAITURE CHALLENGE!

Hey Donna, I specially liked the shadow cast over the eyes by the hair...and the attention to detail. Impressive.

I just love the number of interpretations that there can be to any given subject.
Very impressed with the work by Dave and cedargrove. Have to give capturing Edith a try, before the month is out

Re: January 2014 PORTRAITURE CHALLENGE!

Thanks Sunil. Actually, it looks a little distorted in the post. There is strange lighting on this piece. Note the shadows in the original under the hands and behind the ear. The camera distorted some things and then the re-sizer here added to the distortion! Things show blue that really aren't in my piece (on the embroidery and lace on the sleeve).. Anyway, I enjoyed doing it. I may do some clean-up but I'm going to wait 'til it's good and dry.

I hope they continue the challenges. It's good practice and I enjoy seeing the different interpretations. Some nice work here, indeed.

Re: January 2014 PORTRAITURE CHALLENGE!

Here's my final, I think. I'm having lots of trounle getting a good photo of this. It's small (I wish I did it a little bigger) and the colors just don't look right in the photos.

Dave.......Stunning mixing with such a limited palette, and a lovely portrait.

Hi! Not sure if this challenge is still on, but I was roaming about and this photo caught my eye. So here's my take:
