Time lapse

Anyone play with time lapse? I just started. Shot with my D5100 at 30 second interval in Aperture preferred to keep flicker to a minimum. . Assembled with VDub at 30 fps.

I need to pay attention to my framing for obvious reasons. Shot out an upstairs window.

That was great.
It appears that you have a heavy foot problem since you were passing everybody! I was surprised how still the camera seemed to be even though it was subject to the bumps in the road.
Well done Dudley. Nice to see you using the new feartures of your D5100.

My brother did a similar one to your "clouds going by thing". He is an electrical engineer and since his camera does not have the ability to automatically take continous timed snapshots, he built his own "timer type box relay" that activated the shutter at set intervals. The film was similar to yours. Then he added music. It was really cool.

I noticed the passing cars thing too (I think we should start calling you Leadfoot. ), it did make the video interesting though. If I made one of my driving you would probably fall asleep.

I really like that... I don't think my P-500 has that capability, but I've been wanting to upgrade to a D3100 or even D5100 if possible. That might be a factor in the decision.

Edit: A quick google search yielded this answer to that very question:

"This camera has the Interval Timer Shooting. Pictures are shot automatically at the specified intervals. The maximum amount of frames can be taken during interval shooting differs according to the interval taken between each shot. You can choose from 30 s (600 images), 1 min (300 images), 5 min (60 images) or 10 min (30 images). "

Woo hoo. Probably not as many timing options, but still, something to work with.

Very cool Dudley. I'd like to try that myself. My camera doesn't have the interval timer feature, but I believe they are sold as attachments on Amazon.

Dudley's posting of his time lapse video inspired me to order an intervalometer for my camera. Here is a video of a drawing I did of an Ostrich. About 2 hours compressed down to 1 minute 29 seconds. One frame every 2 seconds shown at 25 fps.

I had a focus problem because all of the tutorials I read specify to keep your camera on manual focus. I did that at first. I found the camera would very gradually change focus, I assume because of the mirror flipping and shutter clicking so many times. Part way through the video I changed to auto focus and that fixed the problem.
