Re: Tommy's Aran...FINALLY!!!!!

Congratulations!!!

And the sweater and wool are fabulous. Looking forward to seeing the kilt hose as well. This is a worsted yarn size, or close to it, I assume. Looks soft and wonderful.

Thanks Jen!
Yes, the singles were spun worsted-it's DK size and is very soft and lovely to feel. I really like BFL for spinning-such a nice crimp to it and so smooth to spin! (this sweater weighs a ton though!! )
Haven't gotten too far with the hose yet...just finished the garter portion of the top so not a whole lot to show except the cuff and garter. I'll post when I get some of the leg done.

Re: Tommy's Aran...FINALLY!!!!!

Resurrecting this thread to finally add photos of the finished item. Spinning and knitting all done!!! Finished several months ago!
Tom loves it, although, it has been a bit warm this Winter and he hasn't had a chance to wear it.

It's wonderful and congratulation with a job well done

I have done a very similar pattern in forest green for my foster father and he is nearly 6 feet tall... and it weight a ton too !! The sweater ended up saving his life as he was wearing it while shooting wild gees and he fell through ice into a lake. There was no one around but he got out somehow and walked more than an hour to the car in the freezing cold... his chest area felt warm all the time but he said the sweater grew longer and longer with each step he took It was ruined when he got home but he was alive and well. Thank goodness for quality pure wool

Needless to say I did not make another one for him... it was took far to long to make. Sorry I posted this story on your post but it remind it me so much of the green sweater I made all those years ago with so much love knitted into every row

Re: Tommy's Aran...FINALLY!!!!!

Not at all! Thanks for posting the story! That's really interesting! I guess it proves why these sweaters are worn by fishermen and people in very cold climates. They certainly are warm and will keep out almost any chill!

I appreciate all the comments-thanks so much. Yeah, I kinda think he's a cutie too!

Re: Tommy's Aran...FINALLY!!!!!

Spectacular! I am so impressed that you have spun the wool, much less knit a complex pattern. The texture is so wonderful.

Thanks Jen!
I liked knitting this sweater so much, I knit another sweater for him last year! Not handspun, but it was a nice knit. Finished the last stitch on December 31, 2011!! He wore it New Year's Day!
