"Make And Cast Your Own Latex Molds"

tamara, is this really as easy as you make it look? i've read through this article about five times now, and each time i'm all ready to go out and buy all the stuff and just do it.

now here's a question: where do you get the basic materials? is there an online source that you'd recommend?

Hi amanda. Yep, it really is that easy. The biggest thing is overcoming the fear of mold making. I know, I use to think, "Boy, if I mess this up my art is toast!"

You can start out with buying liquid latex at a craft/art store. The hydrostone I buy from a local vendor. It comes from a company called US Gypsum out of Illionois. As far as I know it's only sold in 100 pound bags.

You could "practice" mold making and casting on smaller pieces and cast with plaster to get the feel for it.

Give me a few minutes and I'll look up where I buy my latex from, I use a professional grade.

Love this! I've been wanting to try some 3D work for a long time, but have been nervous about jumping off. This really gets me going! I will be trying this as soon as I can get the materials. It's a great starting point. Also, I LOVE your Gargoyle!

Thank you for your compliments. I'm glad the article wants to make so many go ahead and give mold making a try.
