Re: Emma and Bubba - WIP

James, Marina,

Thanks very much. I really appreciate your comments, I had to really work on the eyes because of the difficult reference photo.

Ruthie,

Thank you! It's nice to know I'm in good company as I struggle !

Kat,

Thanks so much! I definitely layer, most every spot has more than one color there. I was thinking about showing what colors I'm using. If it's not too much work, maybe I will.

Barb,

Thank you! The owners of these cuties really love them - I think they're spoiled, but they're great dogs!

Great start on these dogs. I like the way you moved them closer together. Don't worry about whiskers till the end, whiskers look natural and you can always change its angle from a perfect horizontal if you want.

Re: Emma and Bubba - WIP

Okay, here is a nose update. I'm loosing my mind with poor Emma's nose, hard to paint what you can't see. I'm using lots of other references - thanks Deirdre! - to try and make this happen. I'm trying to figure it out based on the outline shape, then I'm filling in the blanks. Pretty much that is what it is in the photo, blank....

Anyway, here is the updated nose. I think I'm going to move on for now to other areas, then review it again to make sure it's not too wonky. Please let me know what you think, I really appreciate it.

As I look at it on the screen, some little highlights on our right nostril may need to be moved a smidge, maybe along the top of the nostril? I don't know........

I don't know if anyone is interested, but if you are, here are the colors I'm using so far. I enjoy seeing what others use, so I thought I would share. There is no rhyme or reason to it, and no plan. I just pick colors as I go, and if I like the way they work, they go into the pile. As you can see, I have a real problem working with a limited pallet - I think I'm up to 49 already.

Hey Robert,

Thanks so much. Yes, those whiskers are the icing on the cake, and need to be done last .

Amazing the detail work you have in this piece, the fur strokes alone.
It is an inspiration to see what can be accomplished.
ty I cannot wait to see the progression of this and hopefully learn from you.
