This is so exquisite. I love watching the work in progress. Like opening a gift each time you post a new step. That wood grain is very good even if I've never heard of the type. The links on the chain are really coming out well, too.

We'll wait for you to have time. It's worth waiting for. Work and family have to be priorities...just wait until you are old and retired like me...you still won't have enough time for all the things you need to do and want to do!

He does seem to have a talent - doesn't he?

Fabulous work and I too drop in for my frequent WIP check.

You have much more patience and yet it does pay off.

Keep them coming and don't forget to pay attention to those kids. They are what keep our lives so wonderful!!! Oh - and if you haven't heard, the US is freezing over while you are at the beautiful beaches with your children. Savor every moment for us.

Yeah Crumby...so much suspense....worth every second..as far as the road to Nutty Kingdom..I'm sure I know the way..had a few kind people drive me there... know the way all by myself now...

Your long ride thru this piece is breathtaking...how are you enjoying it? Since it is your first trip into still life...I love the folds in the chain...that's an exciting challenge....

Watch has some colour!!!!!

OK . . here's the damned watch!! LOL
This is about another 3 hours work . . . . The face presented a few problems as I needed to do a thin underpainting over which I was to put in the numbers on the watch face. Since the underpainting was going to cover up my form lines I had to make extra marks outside the watch area which I could later use to draw lines pointing to the centre in order to get it down. The entire face was done with a cotton bud with the outline of the elipse of the inner stop watch being the paper showing through. A small highlight to catch the upper edge of this inner stop watch is shown . .dunno if you can see that.

The watch numbers are actually Roman Numerals . . I knew I only had one shot at them coz I didn't want to be playin' in thick pastel to get these down. I filed down a pastel to a FLAT end so I cold use an edge and then whammo . . I was over the moon that I got it first time!! . . phew . . bit nervy doing that bit!! LOL . . the length of the numbers was guessed as the base of the numbers themselves also form an elipse . .that clear?? s'pose not.

The rest of the watch was then pretty easy using the same colours I've been using for the chain.

Have yet to put the crack in the glass but hopefully that'll go as smoothly as the rest of the face.

On the home stretch now!!

Sorry about the photo . .it's late and so I did it "hand held" under a tungsten lamp!

It's now 1:30am . .I'm off to bed!!

Cheers
Crumby

I continue to be in awe! You must never drink caffeine products if you can do work like that.

Magnificent. Keep us posted.

This has been an amazing journey to follow. The watch, like the rest of the painting is excellent. You spend more time on one tiny element in a painting than many of us spend on a whole painting. And it shows!

Pastels

Crumby,

This is wonderful. It is a symphony in many scales... I would like to go on watching it ..as it keeps growing.. tendered by a gentle hand.. with so many spectators ....spellbound.....in a halowed silence..shhh

go on ......please..go on .......

Thankyou, so much.
Charles
