Homage to Morandi

I always liked Morandi, though his style is completely different from mine.
This has just a wee bit of oil polychromos pencils as under-drawing and then Lucas Oils on board. About 12x14.
I gave the bottles some realism and the rest a bit ethereal.

Re: Homage to Morandi

Derek,
Never heard of Morandi - I assume the background bottles are an homage to him/his style? Regardless, the bottles in front could not look any better, great highlights, feel of solidity and greenish reflections.

P.S. Jones lost that fight.

Slyly humorous as well as technically brilliant.
I saw an exhibition of Morandi prints in Rome a few years back. They have a haunting quality.

Re: Homage to Morandi

I can't even say why, but I knew about Morandi since teen age and never liked his work. But! YOUR bottles are great, plus the whole idea - thanks for sharing!

Wonderful, Derek! Although not my style personally, I find Morandi's work pretty interesting - almost poetic in its simplicity. And your piece, in execution but also in concept, is very clever and fascinating as well! Bravo!

Re: Homage to Morandi

Nice contrast between the (very well painted) realistic bottles and the Morandi style.

Love Morandi's still life paintings. It's nice to see a contrast of his style and your own, it works well.
