Re: Stitch in Time February 2020

Virginia, I wish I had multiple projects going. My space is too small to do more than one thing at a time. And switching requires cleaning the space of the current project to make room for the next one.

Re: Stitch in Time February 2020

This house had weirdly big bedrooms with gigantic closets, as soon as I saw it, I wanted it for the closets alone. I swear my first thought was "oo I could fit so much stuff in there"

We had quite the snowstorm last night. There was a lot of snow but it's so fluffy, I'd didn't even bother with the snowblower.

I'm also done my embroidery sampler. It's turning out better than I thought.

Re: Stitch in Time February 2020

Virginia, wish I did have lots of space. But at the same time, I'm glad I'm somewhat restricted. I could get in a lot of trouble with more space to spread out into.

So, sewing is set to one side as I now have everything I need to do my taxes. That is the top priority because I want to get it done and filed. Then I can go back to sewing without that hanging over my head. No point waiting till the last minute. And much to be said for getting it done.

I finished the socks! I started on the second pair but they will of course be a bit different. The kids love them.

Re: Stitch in Time February 2020

Those are funny. I belong to a "modern and snarky" embroidery group and a "historical embroidery" group and the difference between the two is something. I like all of the different historical and modern kinds of embroidery.

Finished my sampler though it's not a traditional sort of sampler, practice piece would be a better word maybe. the wing is from a pendant from Hobby Lobby that had the back broken off.

Re: Stitch in Time February 2020

Ooh I really like that! When I was making a lot of dolls I used a lot of broken jewelry too. One used to be able to buy it by the bag at Value Village of broken bits, single earrings, loose beads and such. I used it for the grandmother teacosies because scale didn't matter.

Lena, great socks. You are such a fabulous knitter.

Virginia, Lovely embroidery. The fabric you used is awesome.

Taxes are done! Yay! Unfortunately, that has led to the discussion with DH about his retirement and the need for a budget. We've been doing really well the last couple of years and I haven't bothered. But he's planning on retiring come October. Oh well, I'm the one in charge of numbers. Best get to it and get it done.

Re: Stitch in Time February 2020

Thank you both! That material was in the odds and ends bin. I love the odds and ends bin.

Lena, I don't think they have Value Villages in the States. We had a lot of them in Ontario. I have a big container of jewelry that my husbands Grandmother sent me (she was a bit of a hoarder) It's in terrible shape, rhinestones and broken links but there are some interesting pieces in there I'll find a use for.

I love doing a budget. I've always really liked math. Our taxes are done too, always a nice feeling to get them over with!

Re: Stitch in Time February 2020

Virginia, it's not the math so much as the tiny numbers on the screen or the print out. I think I need new glasses.

Budget is done for now. We'll deal with it more when we have solid numbers from SSI and retirement funds.

Right now, I'm working on making a new journal. I have about 5 or 6 pages in the current one so kind of need to get that done. Then, maybe I'll be sewing again. I've still got dragons to re-make, and a couple of doll experiments going. As I told mom, I'm always making something.

Re: Stitch in Time February 2020

I keep forgetting to make an eye appointment! I always remember in the evening after they're closed.

Hope everyone is doing well. I've been busy doing what I couldn't tell you, seems like I've been running to stand still lately. My husband is doing really well. He is regaining motion in his neck too which is great.

Re: Stitch in Time February 2020

Virginia, write yourself a note somewhere you'll see it to get that eye appointment made. So great to hear your husband is doing better.

Lots of family drama happening lately. Mom got diagnosed with stage 3 lymphoma and is now going thru chemotherapy. Son got laid off unexpectedly and is job hunting. Hubby is arguing with the powers that be about training that is taking place during the day (mandatory, of course) when he's working all night essentially creating a situation where he won't be able to get any sleep for 48 hours. And not a thing I can do about any of it. Yet, I'm getting a bit stressed about it all. *sigh*

I finally got the prototype doll finished. I need to get a picture. It's not the elaborate, realistic cloth doll I've been chasing for 6 years (which still is not accomplished). This doll is simple, made of felt, and on par with the critters for size and materials. I may be able to make these. The next step is to do it again only this time, keep a time log. See if it's worth taking into production. If not, I have a tiny fairy to keep my miniature library in order.

Another pair of socks. This pair is not wool. They are for my daughter.

I am sorry for all of you having this drama in your life. I wish I could reach out and give you all a hug.

My acrylic class is going well. Or at least I am having fun.

Re: Stitch in Time February 2020

On second thought, my acrylic paintings don't look that different from the oil painting we found in the basement that I did when I was 18. I am not sure what I feel about that.

Re: Stitch in Time February 2020

I'm so sorry about the family drama, hope your Mom is feeling okay and your son finds a job quickly. That just sucks about your husband's schedule! That's ridiculous and dangerous to think that someone could be awake for that long.

Can't wait to see the mini library fairy!

Lena, at least you're trying, with practice, you'll jump ahead leaps and bounds! Love the socks, the color scheme is great on them too.

Re: Stitch in Time February 2020

Lena, the socks are great. The main thing is you are having fun in your acrylics class.

Hi Virginia.

Hubby has gotten word that they are splitting the training up into shorter amounts. It's still not great as he works 12 hour shifts and the training will now be 3 hours. Technically, they are only having him 15 hours and the legal limit is 16. But it does cut into his sleep for those days. At least he'll get some sleep.

Nothing else to report. I appreciate the support.
