Re: Welcome to What's on Your Easel ... February 2020

It's been awhile since I posted something. I was busy with things around the house, I even sinned with acrylics. To paint walls though. As my WIP landscape will have to wait for a couple of weeks more, let me post it here. 40x50 cm.

I have been meaning to post my progress on a self portrait for weeks but I dont know how to resize pictures on my phone. My wife got me an easel for the bedroom so I can actually get some work done while she watches Outlander.
It's about 18x 12 inches on a bigger canvas. I started it a little over a month ago. C&C welcome.

Joel, I would say you got it!....doing this for practice to get into portrait/figurative work? or just the experience?

Thank You,Becca! I would say practice since I havent done a self portrait in years. It's probababl not my forte' since thats as smooth as my paint application gets and most people wouldnt like their face so textured. I will try a different approach next when this one is done.

sometimes texture, even in faces is not a bad thing...that said, most people, like you say, would hesitate about it...

Re: Welcome to What's on Your Easel ... February 2020

Started blocking this one in today. I'm struggling with the roundness of the color portion of the eyes a bit so I may have to let it dry real good then fine tune them after its dry.

Re: Welcome to What's on Your Easel ... February 2020

More colors simply blocked in today and shapes are starting to form. I got the eyes corrected last night and they look pretty good so far but they still have a long ways to go. The skin isn't as pink as it's shown in this photo it's more like the previous picture.

I need to wait for everything to dry before adding shadows and better details.

Re: Welcome to What's on Your Easel ... February 2020

I got the critical parts done Sat - the skin, lips and the mask. They all will need some additional shadow details once the rest of the painting gets developed but it's all downhill from here...WHEW!
