Stitch in Time January 2020

Not only a new month, but a new year and a new decade. It doesn't feel any different than yesterday.

Weather was predicting snow and high winds last night. Got the high winds and rain. It was way too warm for snow.

I don't do New Year's resolutions or even goals. I get the idea, but I've found I tend to do that kind of goal setting around my birthday rather than the calendar year. However, feel free to share your goals if you wish.

Wishing everyone a happy and prosperous new year.

Re: Stitch in Time January 2020

I never do that kind of stuff either. Winter is to bleak and dark and hard here. It basically sets you up for failure. Spring is a much better time to make some kind of resolutions. January is for survival not bright new ideas. It is for meditation and hunkering down and cocooning. April is when the blood gets moving and the new ideas happen.

I haven't made much headway with the journaling. I feel much better today then I have in several days. I have just been knitting hats. Today I am trying for a more complicated hat then 4 rows of knit and 4 rows of purls. I received some yarn as a late present and I am trying out a new pattern for my sister in Ontario new guy. They moved in together last August in a house they bought together. Both are widowed and do not plan to marry as it would cause to much complications and financial hassles. The yarn knits up sort of greenish grey so perfect for exmilitary guy.

Re: Stitch in Time January 2020

I usually just have a word for the year and this year my word is NO. I tend to over commit hence the choice. But this year I've also decided to set a couple goals. One is to stitch while we watch tv in the evening. I cut several 6 inch squares out of old blue jeans and backed them with a stabilizer. My plan is to finish one a week. I have a couple other goals to but I'm not going to obsess about them. If I keep up with them good, if not so be it. I'm too old to start worrying about such things.

Lena, glad you are feeling better. Looking forward to seeing the new hat.

Helen, would love to see the stitching on denim.

Still working on critters. I'm trying to stay enthused about making them. So far it's not working too well.

Happy New Years!

Glad you're feeling better, Lena. I never have much luck journaling. I start and stop but I do like to do it.

Debby, your critters are amazing creatures, hope they behave for you!

Helen, what a great idea to have a word. That's so clever.

I'm working on another baby yoda for my husband. My son took the first one. I'm working on an embrodiary too. I started with a lion then got carried away!

Virginia, embroidery will do that. Hoping to see baby Yoda again soon.

No sewing today. Going to take the break in the weather as a sign and travel to the city to do some shopping.

Re: Stitch in Time January 2020

We're getting snow now but it's pretty fluffy looking.

I finished putting away all the Christmas stuff today. My house looks so bare!

Re: Stitch in Time January 2020

Virginia, enjoy your fluffy snow. Stay warm. Sorry about the bare house. Maybe put up some spring decorations?

Went to Michael's and bought some fairy lights. Little LED lights in a string of tiny leaves. Made my studio more fun immediately. I actually feel like spending time and sewing.

Re: Stitch in Time January 2020

Last year after we took down the decorations the house did look drab. I bought some of those twigs with lights , a big basket shaped like a vase and filled it up with fake flowers and the twigs. We also have fairy lights in the shape of dragonflies up after the holidays. January and February are just to ugly here to have a drab house! It is going down to a high of -25c by Friday, too depressing.
I finished the hat and I will post pictures tomorrow. My youngest saw it and wants one so I am making another but with different yarn that doesn't have wool in it.
I tried to by yarn online a couple of days ago but the store was out of stock of the colour I wanted. Last night I got an email that they had some but by late morning it was gone again. I want RED to knit with. Not this washed out green.

Here is the hat. The colours are a little shifted into blue.

What a beautiful pattern, I love the brim especially. It's so elegant looking.

I'm rearranging furniture now. I've caught spring clean fever early this year!

Those lights sound pretty, what a great idea.

Re: Stitch in Time January 2020

Lena, the hat looks great. Sorry about the red yarn being out of stock. Hopefully they'll re-stock soon.

Virginia, glad you found a way to deal with the lack of Christmas decorations.

Spent some time sewing last night. Almost done with the current dragon. The fairy lights have triggered a cascade of ideas. Spent a lot of time with the sketchbook last night too or I'd have finished the dragon. I felt obligated to get all the ideas captured so my brain will continue to generate ideas.

Re: Stitch in Time January 2020

Our decorations are still mostly up, except for the outside ones. It turns out the Friday's -25c will be the warmest day for the following week. It is snowing quite heavily today and about 4 inches have already fallen. Unfortunately we have to go out to day for my sisters dentist appointment but it is supposed to stop by noon sometime so it should be ok.

I have been working at cleaning up the studio. Thinking about getting back to journalling again. I am glad the lights have helped stimulate your ideas, Debbie. I find there is noting like rearranging and adding brightness to a room to help stimulate things.

I made another hat for my daughter from that pattern. It is not quite finished. It is a fun pattern to knit. The link is to Ravelry where the pattern is sold.

Re: Stitch in Time January 2020

Lena, that is a cool hat pattern. Good luck with your studio cleaning. I hope you find your way back to your dolls.

And... now I have to stop and catch up on the bookkeeping for the business. I've sworn every year at this time that I will not do this to myself. Yet here I am looking at a pile of receipts and invoices and no accounting for tax purposes yet. *sigh* Fortunately, this is a small business without a lot of volume of sales so it is do-able at the end of the year. But I really should be more disciplined about the bookkeeping side of things. I'll be busy doing math for a few days...

Very old tapestries of Scandinavia. A great fibre rabbit hole to fall into.
