Amazing you've captured the soul, love it. Will be watching with anticipation. I love the eyes and you've got the skin tones to perfection. Will look up Gibraltar pastels. Not sure if the my are available in the UK.

WELL DONE again xx

Re: "Why?", a WIP

Thank you maryinasia, what a nice thing to say.

Thanks Ruthie. I've been a bit under the weather for the last two days, hopefully I can get back to this soon.

The skintone set that Girault makes really is a nice one Ed. That was why I bought it, what I needed were skintones, I have plenty of colors, it's those skintones in different values that are really nice to have. The gray set is also nice, toned down colors which work really well in a portrait.

Here is a photo of the skin tone set if anybody is interested. Of course it doesn't look like this now since I've been using them.... this is when they were brand new. I will take a photo of the gray set and post it soon.

Thanks Nicole, I am glad you find this helpful.

Thanks David, nice to see you back!

Thank you Jill. I would think Giraults are available in the UK, they are made in France, much closer to you than me!

Re: "Why?", a WIP

I don't know if anybody is stocking Girault in the UK yet, they weren't a little over a year ago when I bought mine.
I was greedy and bought the whole set , imported from Paris.
I really like them, unfortunately I like them so much I rarely use them because I don't want to use them up

I love watching as your work progresses. It's like a covering is slowly removed to reveal the person who is already there, waiting. Beautiful! and the eyes are phenomenal...so "alive"!

Re: "Why?", a WIP

Wow Sarah, a full set.... I'm jealous! Use them that's what they're for! They last a surprisingly long time, I've had many of mine for years.

I highly recommend them Chikaminx, they're a wonderful pastel.

Thanks Marlene, I'm just flowing along...

Thanks Peg, I appreciate it.

As far as working on this, unfortunately I didn't have the time this weekend. The holidays always derails me..... I was going to work on it this morning, but I just couldn't get to it. Hoping to get some time this week though, keep your fingers crossed...

Re: "Why?", a WIP

As promised, I took a photo of the Girault gray set which I am also using on this portrait, along with the skin tone set and other various sticks from my studio boxes. This set, along with the skin tone set, are what I am using as a "base", adding other colors as I feel I need them. I purchased this set recently, but Dakota was out of stock so they "built" it for me. They were missing four sticks, two of which I already had in my palette, the other two I purchased open stock from another company. Not too many suppliers carry this particular set (at least I don't think they do), which was why I had Dakota put whatever they had together for me. I was lucky to find the missing sticks elsewhere (funny that I had two in my stash already...). You can see the two from my studio as they are a bit worn, and one is broken. The seventh one from the left and the second from the right are the ones I had in my studio already...
