Wow this thread is packed with beautiful work. Annemarie, your portraits are so appealing and meaningful with the lovely additional meanings you pack them with!

Here is (she says embarrassedly) the only portrait I've managed in months, which is the swap portrait of Indiana Kate. The swaps have inspired me to do some more of other people and I may borrow some references from older swaps, too.

Oil on canvas panel, 11" x 14"

Beautiful finish, Annemarie! (would you be insulted if I said I can picture these beauties in a calendar? there is something iconic about these women...?)

Good to see you back to the portraits, Nancy- we hope to see some more!

Nice to see more from you as well KG.

Bethany -- I love the idea of a calendar of Larubia's beautiful ladies!
Heck, she'd be in good company -- I just bought myself a Sorolla calendar for 2013 -- gotta keep inspired, eh!

This is from the Thursday night portrait group, the model brought in her dog which went down well, two of the participants included the dog laying at her feet.

Re: Portrait Gallery - August September 2012

I haven't posted in this forum in quite awhile but here are a couple portraits I've been working on.
First is a painting of my wife Marion. It 11" by 14" oil on canvas board.

The second is a family friend from Romania. It is 9" by 12" oil on Arches Oil paper. This is still a WIP

Any helpful comments appreciated.
Thanks for looking,
Len

Very nice to see you back, Len! Love the "wife" painting- looks so believable which is so difficult to achieve!

Re: Portrait Gallery - August September 2012

My grandson's birthday is December 27, and this painting of him I did 16 years ago, is what I'm sending him. So, for once, I'm not asking for critique (although I've learned so much in 16 years that this really falls short!), but just showing you what he has been wanting for years.

"The Firstborn," oil on canvas, 20"x 24"

Re: Portrait Gallery - August September 2012

Will it be a Christmas and birthday's present? Very well done portrait. My eyes look at his head then his left hand and then the light at his left knee, in an oblique fashion as the old masters composition. Did you do it from a photograph or did he pose for you? I am also working on my first grandson who is almost 2 years old.
Have a nice day
Moe

zuzubol, the painting of your wife has SO much love in it. It's just beautiful. I'm sure she loves it.
